Buffett Backstories: Fifty Years, Fifty Songs

Whether you're a recent Buffett fan or you've followed him since the early 70's (raising my hand), this is a fun read with short stories about the inspirations for the songs, the songwriting process that went into creating them, and the band members and personalities that influenced the results. A few of the stories may be familiar, but author Scott Atwell's extensive research provides plenty of amusing and interesting nuggets throughout. The book is an offshoot of Atwell's weekly Key West radio show of Buffett tunes where each week he researched and delved into the origin of one of the featured songs. Atwell grew up in Key West during the same years that Buffett "found his home" and wrote many of his earliest songs, so his perspective as a true Conch adds an extra layer of authenticity to many of the descriptions and stories. Fun book!

Scott Atwell's book, Buffett Back Stories commemorates the 50th anniversary of Jimmy Buffett's arrival in Key West, Florida (1971-2021). This is done by examining 50 of his greatest songs and describing the people, places and experiences that inspired Jimmy to write them. Mr. Atwell does this through meticulous research to include interviews with those that were there at the time. We Buffett fans are known not only for our passion to the music but also our passion for Key West and all things Jimmy Buffett. This book does not disappoint. It is a relatively easy read and each "back story" is only 2-3 pages in length. Packed into those pages are stories, people and places that help these songs we know by heart become more personal and beloved to us Parrot Heads. If you are a die hard Buffett fan or a relative new comer you will love this book as it truly takes you into the world and mind of Jimmy Buffett. I wish I could give this 6 stars! Great job Mr. Scott Atwell!

Great short book with lots of cool info behind the songs. Some info you will remember, some might surprise you.

The insights into the creative process and the descriptions of how JB became the phenomenon that is now a worldwide enterprise is just FUN. For a lifelong Parrothead who first saw JB play in Key West in the 70s it has been a joy to read!

Content is good. The kindle version however appears to be scanned image as it can't be resized for kindle reading. Would be nice just a bit larger (and i like small print).

Many interesting tidbits behind some of Jimmy's music. Good stuff for Parrot head faithful. Are the back stories fictional facts or factual fiction? Like Margaritaville, it may only be a state if mind!!

Great stories but the pages keep falling out of the spine. Poorly constructed for a "new" book.

Every thing about this is so cool! Great pictures, great story. A masterpiece for less than $15.00!
