Beautiful video
I have been a rift cichlid enthusist for years and you can't get a better video on african cichlids than this. And you get to watch a nature video to the soothing narration of Avery Brooks. You can't beat that! It covers pretty much every category of Rift cichlids and eve gives information on other inhabitants such as otters and electric catfish. It really is a beautiful video. If you love Blue Planet, you'll love this.

If West African Cichlids Are Your Thing, Buy
Great footage covering all habitats of Lake Tanganyika (open water, boulder-strewn lacustrine coasts, marshy riverine estuaries. Shell dwellers, mouth brooders, sardine cichlids - this covers them all. Of course, you'll need a VCR for this. National Geographic has a ready audience for this video on DVD or streaming for decades to come if it ever decides to offer it in those formats. While the price is a little steep, it is completely worth getting your hands on a copy if Rift Lake Cichlids and habitats are your thing.

Fantastic Documentary
As mentioned in other reviews, if you are a fish enthusiast and especially an African cichlid enthusiast then this is a must have. It offers incredible insight into the fish that we all love and keep in our home tanks. Even if you aren't a fishkeeper the film is fantastic, but it's an extra level of interest for me when I can see the fish that I keep in their natural environment. I'm desperately trying to find this on DVD if anyone knows where to look!

Best of the Best
I spend a lot of time watching nature shows, especially National Geographic. Jewels of the Rift is one of my favorites. The musical score and narration are unsurpassed. My students are fascinated by it and just love the cichlids. We've watched over and over and over again. Just fascinating!
