Looks really nice and is larger than I expected
This is great so far. It was not difficult to assemble and is larger than I expected - if you were to stack two boxes of the kind that contain reams of paper on top of each other, that is about the size. I would measure your fireplace and compare the dimensions if you want to put it in your fireplace - I think it's too big for mine, though not by a lot. It's mostly plastic, but it really does look nice - the plastic doesn't look like plastic, it's not shiny or easy to dent, scratch or damage. It blends in nicely with nice furniture, and doesn't look cheap. The artificial flames aren't museum quality, but I really like them and they certainly do add a cozy atmosphere to the room. I've had the heater running most of the day for six weeks now with no problem (I'll come back with an edit if it stops working). This comes with a remote control which is much nicer to have than I would have imagined. You can have a "roaring" fire (more flames), a "modest" fire (less flames), and have flames without blowing heat. No part of the unit gets hot to the touch on the outside, so it's safe for pets.It takes a couple of hours to heat my apartment living room and the blowing fan is not especially quiet, but it definitely does eventually heat the whole room (about 15 feet x 20 feet with an open area into the dining room and kitchen). I bought it when the apartment's antiquated "radiant heat" system went out for good, and my heating bill has been a little less than it usually is, so it's pretty efficient, too.I had some doubts about this purchase because of the bad reviews, but I haven't experienced anything unsatisfactory at all, so I'm giving it 5 stars. I'm glad I bought it and hope it will last a few years. I'll come back with an edit if it doesn't.- - - - - - - EDIT - - - - - - - - -3rd winter of 12+ hours of use most days and still runs like new. Will update if it dies.

Looks like the real thing!!
For the price, this is a great addition to our living room. We've always liked fireplaces when we stay at vacation homes, but don't have one at home and don't want to incur the expense to have one put in (or to have it take up so much permanent space in our room). Saw this on TV while flipping thru channels--it was on QVC and looked impressive. I don't buy from QVC so I tried Amazon and was surprised to find so many different styles available here. For $150 bucks this is really a great deal. It looks like real flames (the reviewers who disagree must have some other model than the one we have--ours looks great--from across the room you'd swear it was the real thing. The color of the logs could be a little more orange instead of red and that would make them look more realistic, but, hey--they still look OK from across the room. The remote--contrary to many reviewers complaints--works fine from 20' away and from the side. I really have no complaints. The heat is even and not too loud at all. In fact, I have to mute the TV when I put the heat on so that I'm sure I'm getting the heater turned on (it is possible to only have the "fire" going with no heat). It's also fun watching visitors go past the warm stove and then be surprised to see we have a radio and candles sitting right on top of the "hot" lid. Of course, there is no heat at all on the top, front, or sides--it all comes from underneath the front. Nothing for anyone to get burned on.All in all, this was money well spent. And I'm glad I got the larger one--smaller ones might not give the full visual effect. In fact, it even seems that the room becomes immediately warmer when you just put on the light show--even without the heater on. Yeah, it's all in your head, but that's how it seems to us. We're very happy with it.

Not bad
Pros:~Fairly realistic flames~For those of you in hot climates who still want to have the calming effects of a fire, you can leave the "flame" on without having the heat on~"Flame" height can be adjusted - high or low~Temperature can be adjusted~Feels oh-so-nice when I get in from being out in the freezing Colorado weather - I can switch it on, stand in front of it, and get that warm-clothes-from-the-dryer feeling~Compact, but not so small as to seem Mickey Mousey~Lightweight - easily moveable to other areas of the house~Quiet - the fan is barely audible~The unit (on the sides, top, and back) does not heat up - can touch without getting burned~Functional door on the front opens up to reveal control panel, or you can control it with the included remote~Setup was fast - my husband had it done in about 5 minutesCons:~We have about a 15' x 15' living area. It is fairly open (no walls between the kitchen & dining room, so adding approximately another 25' x 15' with those two areas), and so the heater doesn't really "warm up" the room. Which is understandable since the space is as open as it is. It does, however, take that little chill out of the air. The furnace kicks on about half as often as before.~The cord is pretty short - I'd estimate probably about 3 feet - so you have to either keep it close to the plug in or get an extension cord.~Remote doesn't work from too far away, and must be basically right in front of the unit to make it work~If you're really cold (as I am when I come in from being out in the -4 degree air)you have to stand / sit within 3 feet of it or it won't get you warmed up.Even with the "cons", I LOVE this little heater. It's been really nice to have to take that chill out of the house and to stand next to when coming in out of the cold!

it looks nice but cant operate it yet as I am missing screws to attach the legs to the base. I bought this as a gift, and was disappointed when there was a bill in the box that had the product marked significantly cheaper than what I paid. Will update when I have the parts and can get the unit operating.
