The timber and metal parts all look and feel good. the dimensions of timber parts are big enough to safely stretch the parts that all need pressure applied at the same time. Crucially, it puts pressure on both ends and the sides of the hat. (I contemplated getting a version that stretched just the ends. My recommendation is not to get just an end stretching version.) The central turnbuckle portion, that does the stretching, is large enough to operate by hand. It could also be turned with a spanner BUT I think that would risk stretching too much in one go, and risk ripping stitches, leather or something. I have been working on one 13 year old Akubra hat for the last 4 days. It was past its prime. I have waterproofed it particularly for winter wet weather use. With the stretching I have got it back to size. I want to get it just a little larger.It has gone from something that I needed to replace to something I can keep on using. CRITICISMS/CONCERNS: It uses an elastic band around the circumference. It is not obvious to me why it is needed. It would probably work without it. It comes with one spare (which will probably get lost before the first one perishes). I presume I will be able to find another at a stationary supplies place. I think there is a little bit of grit/sawdust/roughness that catches at some times. It just requires winding back and forward if it catches. It's not a problem, just back it off and then run it forward.UPDATE: 9 careful days later I have an evenly stretched old, character filled and properly fitting hat.UPDATE No.2: I ended up completely unscrewing the mechanism, cleaning the thread with an old toothbrush and giving it a spot of oil on each end. It winds even easier now.

I bought this after realizing that the previous iteration I purchased only stretched the hat front & back, THIS one goes in 4..I mean, most of the oomph is going front & back but there's enough left & right tension to give a proper stretch to my fitted cap so that I don't get headaches and/or that red mark on my forehead.Now, the only red mark on my forehead is when my team doesn't score!

This device looks better than I thought it would. I wear Panama type of hat. It rained one day and shrank enough for me not to want use it now it is just right. Thanks
