VERY soft, no smell at all
I was worried this sheepskin would have a chemical smell, I've been hesitating to buy one, (reading what feels like HUNDREDS of reviews and websites) because I'm pregnant and have a very sensitive nose and even though I really wanted a sheepskin for our baby, I'm really am very concerned about off-gassing fumes...so, I bought two to compare. This one as well as an all natural Mimosa tree cured one by Kaiser. Happily, I cannot detect a smell in either one, yay! So I am keeping them both (yay!). However, this one by Bowron is tagged with a trademarked "Sanitized" and I do not know what chemicals were used to cure it or what the "Sanitized" process entails, even after spending a bunch of time online trying to find out. It is also unshorn, so while I feel confident in letting my older children have at it, I will use the Kaiser/Mimosa cured one (also, it's shorn) for our newborn when he arrives.I REALLY love it though, the long unshorn fur (hair?) (uh, fiber?) is very very soft, not shedding, it's more blond than white, and my 4 year old just loves stroking it, and it's thick, and it's about an inch larger all the way around than the Mimosa cured one - it completely covers the mattress of our porta-crib, where our 2 yr old still sleeps (she fits, but it's about time we move her out) and I feel perfectly good about it because she uses a small pillow so her head is off the sheepskin, but her body is on the fleece - and she's been sleeping well in our cool house during this polar vortex weather we've been having - which my pregnant self has been rather enjoying but my DH is finding a cold bit of hell - need to find him a man-sized sheepskin now :) and looks like Bowron might just have one! If all their sheepskins feel like this one, I'll be buying more for sure.

One of the best purchases for baby!
This has to be one of my favorite purchases for our youngest baby. I didn't use a sheepskin for my other two, and wish I had! The product is super soft and extremely durable and my baby absolutely loves it! We initially used it for nap and floor time, but as she's gotten older we use it primarily for quiet play (we don't let her sleep with it when she is alone) and she will roll over and snuggle it as she quiets down before nap. As a summer baby, I questioned how much we would use this (thinking it may make her too hot), but she seemed to sleep most soundly while on it and was never too hot. Infants have a hard time maintaining their body temp, and this seemed to help her (again - we never let her sleep with this alone though). One of the biggest issues we faced with our other two was transitioning to sleeping in new places. They wanted their cribs and that was it! This travels well and gives her something familiar as she's quieting down for sleep - turning her into our best sleeper so far!Currently thinking about getting more for our older ones...as winter has started, our other kids will snuggle under it (or sit on top of it on the floor). We're thinking it may be worth buying each their own to sleep with when it's cold!

As wonderful as I remember it.
I was given a lambskin for my daughter almost 30 years ago and she loved it. I'm convinced it is one of the reasons her temperment is so lovely. When her daughter was born a month ago, I wanted to provide a lamby for my granddaughter but this time I was able to read about it on the internet. Apparently it is not as benign as I believed due to the risk of SIDS and to the chemicals used in the tanning process. The SIDS risk can be addressed by putting the lambskin under a sheet. I contacted Bowron about the chemicals and they referred me to the company that does the tanning from whom I got no response. I washed it 3 times and dried it for extended periods of time in hopes of removing any chemical residues and decrease the risk of off -gassing. The lambskin will not be used for several months so it will have additional time to air.But I still love it. I think it's wonderful for babies to have such a soft, cozy, cuddly and durable comfort object available and highly recommend it.

Good sheepskin for price
This is the third sheepskin I ordered from Amazon ( all different brands) and this one is great.- it measures 39", the biggest of all three I own- it doesn't have any odor. My other sheepskins have some animal and chemical smell- it came nicely packaged with tags attached and sealed in a Bowron bag. Makes a nice gift. Other skins I purchased arrived as is, stuffed in a box.- it is very smooth and very silky, soft for baby.Things you may not like:- the suede side of the skin is quite stiff. My other sheepskins are very pliable.- it appears as the sheepskin has been very processed as to loose its natural shaggy sheep appearance. The suede side is white and almost feels like paper and the hair is silky it looks almost artificial.- it is medium thick. Not that full but not thin.- the color is yellowishOverall, I would recommend it for a baby, it's soft and doesn't smell anything and it is bigger than expected.

This is a great sheepskin!
Some reviewers dinged this because it was not pure white & uniform color, and has been sanitized. However, I can say that I love it. It is soft, buttery off white color. It is thick. It has been sanitized, but really, do you want insects and bacteria from the sheep living in your sheepskin? Obviously you don't. You could buy an unsanitized skin directly from a farm, but the ones I have seen are not near as lush & comfy as this one. It smells like sheepskin in a good way. I bought euclan to wash it in. I combed it first thoroughly with a mixed wire/nylon hand brush to really fluff it a lot. The back is the sheep hide, not microfiber. Love it.

Thin fur, okay for price.
I have several lambskin rugs in my house in various places, and they are all thick and plush, like you can't resist scrunching your toes in them. This one is one third the thickness of the others, which were all sourced from New Zealand. It's clean and soft, and the fur is very fine, but it's thin. It would probably be fine for most uses, except a bedside rug for you to smoosh your feet into at the end of a hard day.

Lovely and soft
We bought this for my son when he was born. He is now 10 and still has this lovely soft sheepskin in his room.
