Insight guides are very good if you want a more visual guide to work with. Additionally this like all others in the series is very much geared towards city break type visits. It won't give in depth accommodation and eating options but you do get a good overview of the city and how to get the most out of a visit. This is a brand new version which is always helpful for a travel guide.

Very clearly laid out ,concise ,none of the excessive detail that bedevils other travel books

This will help novices and frequent visitors for a very good insight to this amazing city. Based in Venice I took a visit to Padua helped by this book. Before going and after returning it will entertain and inform the owner.

DK Eyewitness books are my go to books when I am planning a holiday and I have quite a collection now. They are so informative and useful. I always use DK guides in the planning stages as I think that they point you in the right direction of what to see and do, and are packed full with information, pictures and maps. This is a DK Eyewitness book about Venice and the Veneto.The front cover is a pull out map of the Venice area. This book is split into 3 sections, Discover, Explore and Need to Know. It provides information on the different areas of Venice and what to do, see and explore in each of them. It has information on the history of the area, where to eat, where to shop, everything you can think of. In the back there is another fold out map of Venice, which can be removed and put in a bag or pocket. This book is a great size to take away with you, packed with so much information, pictures and ideas. It is a good overall guide, which will point you in the right direction of places to visit. I usually use a guide like this to get ideas then research things on the internet. A great guide perfect for planning your next holiday at a reasonable price.

This little book arrived just in time for my sons summer trip to Italy. He spent five days in Venice and read this book before he went, photographing all the pages featuring things he wanted to see when he was there (the book would have added extra weight to his luggage. He found it invaluable and it made sure he saw all the best bits and could appreciate what he was seeing so much more. The illustrations and photos are beautiful too.

I borrowed the previous DK edition from the library and compared it to this version before my trip. The previous version (more expensive) was more comprehensive (better local language section and more accommodation info) and was made out of better paper quality. But with the internet freely to hand, this book I think find the right balance. Whilst in Venice, I lent it out to other tourists during coffee breaks and dinners and they loved it. The fold-out map was especially helpful. I bought one other book for our trip to Venice (the publisher rhymes with Phoney Granite) but I always defaulted to this DK book and by the last day only picked this DK book in my day sack.
