Q: Do standard crib sheets fit this mattress without sliding off or compromising baby safety?

The standard crib sheet fits perfectly/snug, so there's also no worry of too much loose fabric.

Q: If the breathability feature is in the cover and not the mattress would it just work to buy the cover and put on a different mattress?

I’m not really sure. It’s been a year since I purchased the mattress and I really can’t remember if there is any breathability feature in the mattress. I can say that we had a lot of peace at mind after the purchase and our baby never had an issue with sleeping or difficulty breathing.

Q: Is the mattress itself breathable or is it just the cover?

Just the cover is breathable. But that is what is so great about it! The crib mattresses that are breathable to the inside are prone to growing mold and are VERY hard to clean. In terms of breathability, the cover design is just as safe. And if it gets soiled, you can just put it in your washing machine.
