Insteon Smart Wall Thermostat, Not Heat Pump Compatible, Requires Neutral Wire, 2441TH - Insteon Hub required for voice control with Alexa & Google Assistant

I have two of the wired versions of this thermostat installed in my house (dual HVAC systems) and just had the duct work reworked to include an additional air return on the cathedral ceiling in the master bedroom. We can now close the bedroom doors and the master is effectively its own zone and so I installed this wireless thermostat to control the wired one that is outside of the bedroom. In spite of the negative reviews (all of the ones that I read are several years old), the wireless 2441 installed without any trouble and has remained "master". It does have clear line of sight except for a bedroom door (hollow) and I run it on batteries. The wife loves having the thermostat on her nightstand even though she was controlling the thermostat with her iPhone before.I have the same comments/suggests for the wireless as I do the wired (see below). I drive the thermostat's settings in general with an ISY99 and make no use of their programmed modes and now use the wireless at night for "fine tuning".The text below is for the Insteon 2441, not the wireless thermostat - Amazon seems to have a problem matching reviews to products...This is the second (and third) 2441 I've purchased, having used one in my previous home, and now two units in my current home. I have NEVER used the thermostat's programmed modes where it manages itself. I use an ISY994i basically reprogram these on the fly to adjust the temperature on demand. Using geo-fencing, my HVAC units are active only when we are home, or on our way home. My wife can adjust temperatures without getting out of bed in the middle of the night and is absolutely delighted.If Insteon is listening, I would really like to have a pre-programmed set-back temperature for heating and cooling with a command to active the set-back and deactivate the set-back. This would let us fine tune the temperature settings at the thermostat and let the home controller switch between modes. I'd really like to have two set-back settings - one for "gone for a long time" and the other for "over-night".

Easy to install. Programming the thermostat is not difficult - however, I did need to contact Insteon Technical Support as the "internal" Stand-alone program did not appear to be working. Stand-alone Programmable Temperature changes function ONLY work when the Thermostat is in "Time of Day" Mode and the Installation & Operation Manuals do not adequately explain how to set the thermostat to this mode. (However, if I program the temperature change schedule through my Home Automation System, the thermostat works fine.) I strongly recommend contacting Technical Support after installation for setup and an explanation if you wish for Stand-alone temperature change program operation.Also, support for Amazon's Echo is limited as of this date. Able to easily adjust temperature setpoint, however, cannot request current indoor temperature reading or ask for existing Thermostat temperature setpoint.

This is a un programmable so called programmable device, it is unable to preformed the simple task that it was build to do" set the temp for sleep time and wake time". Customer service is bad in general they have no knowledge of the product and can not offer any valid insight or troubleshooting on any of their products. I have everything insteon from the fan link to the motion detection, hub,light bulbs,smoke bridge, open closed sensors, plugs and so forth, it dosen't matter on what issues I called them on it will almost be the same response " reply to email for escalation and days before someone call that still unable to rectify any of the bugs in the system. For e.g. I set up the thermostat with a sleep time for 11P with a temp. at 70 degrees and a wake time for 8AM with a temp. at 75 degrees, i still have to manually change this settings at each interval. Other e.g. I remove a scenes by deletion from the hub, so one would think everything associated with that scene would stop no. And I have no help from customer service. Now I have two options reset the hub and reprogram over 123 scenes or live with malfunctions.

This Thermostat is great for remotely managing the heating and cooling in your home. I ran into a small problem with the Insteon Thermostats with firmware version 1.15, but firmware version 1.3x resolved all my issues. The only downside to remotely managing any of your Insteon devices remotely, is currently the Smarthome--iPhone interfaces (like SmartLinc) only support clear test communications over the internet (port 80). You need to implement some type of security around this unless you want your neighbor turning your lights on and off for you. Many of the new internet routers support some type of VPN, and the iPhone has client side VPN support. I'd look into something like this before exposing your SmartLinc or Insteon Hub.Amazon is the best place to purchase Smarthome products because the return rate is about 10%. Between getting defective products to getting the wrong color, you need an online service like Amazon that is going to work with to swap/refund your money quickly. I had to return 2 Insteon Thermostats to Smarthome (for being defective) on Dec 7th, and I still have not be paid. Just spoke with Smarthome customer service and they are saying it could be as much as 2 more weeks before I see my refund. An Amazon return is much quicker (and easier). You might a couple dollars more for the Smarthome products (at times), but it's well worth it if there's a problem.

This is so great I know what the temperature is and can also adjust it before I leave to my cottage

The thermostat I am replacing is 4 years old and the date stamp on this one is older than the one I am replacing. I thought I was buying a new product, not one that had sat on a warehouse shelf for years. Very disappointed.

first one just stopped working, second on cannot control remotely via internet. Most likely the instead hub not the thermostat though

The LCD has a somewhat narrow vertical viewing angle. If you mount this too low on the wall for example, when looking at it from above, the information on the screen can be hard to read. The only way to have the back light come with the cover closed is to adjust the temperature. The temperature adjust buttons work fine but they don't have the tactile feel of a premium device.Nine month update: Both thermostats purchased occasionally stop following their time-based programming. Tech support was no help. I'm replacing them with something more reliable.
