Turn: Washington's Spies Season 3

BEST SHOW ON TV BY FAR
TURN: Washington's Spies is without doubt the best TV production that I have ever, ever watched. Every aspect of the show: acting, scripts, settings, cinematography and costumes is top notch quality---way above the other run of the mill stuff and reality shows that TV cranks out these days. What a concept: A show with intelligent dialog, delivered by a brilliant ensemble cast. And while it is a historical drama based on real events, viewers can really get a sense of what life was like in the colonies under British rule. Many people in this country don't care about our history and the sacrifices that patriots had to make. Hardly any one here really understands that the American Revolution was far more than that. It was a Civil War, pure and simple. Families, towns and colonies were split asunder as residents had to choose if they were Whigs or Tories. This is a far different cry from deciding if you are a Democrat or Republican today because Whigs were opposed to monarchy and favored the patriots, a choice which could and did get many people hung by crown forces. Meanwhile Tories supported the British, which was all well and good until Yorktown, and the tables were turned. Thousands had to flee to England, Canada or Caribbean Islands for their lives once the victorious patriots returned home and decided to redress their grievances. This show captures that sense of desperation and conflict as characters have to adapt to tense and dangerous situations. Yes, some of those situations are made for TV, but go with the flow and let the show's general premise of historical characters and events wrapped in an exciting and plot moving drama to both entertain and teach.IF YOU DO WANT TO WATCH SEASON 3, YOU MUST START FROM THE BEGINNING WITH SEASON 1 AND THEN SEASON 2. THERE IS A COMPLEX GROUP OF CHARACTERS WITH COMPLEX AND EVOLVING RELATIONSHIPS. IF YOU JUMP IN AT SEASON 3, THE ACTION IS SUPER TENSE AND EXCITING, BUT YOU WILL HAVE DIFFICULTY MAKING SENSE OF WHO IS DOING WHAT TO WHOM OR WHY.To sum up, I have to give shout outs to the impeccable cast: Abraham Woodhull (Jaimie Bell), Maj. Benjamin Tallmadge (Seth Numrich), Caleb Brewster (Daniel Henshaw), Anna Strong (Heather Lind), Robert Townsend (Nick Westrake), Maj. Edmund Hewlett (Burn Gorman) Judge Richard Woodhull (Kevin McNally), Mary Woodhull (Meegan Warner), Maj. Robert Rogers (Angus McFadden), Maj. John Andre ( JJ Fields), and the most sadistic villain going, Capt. John Graves Simcoe (Samuel Roukin). Every single one of them give Emmy worthy performances, but I think that Burn Gorman gets an extra gold star for navigating Hewlett through an enormous array of plot twists and character development. There is also a huge cast of fantastic supporting actors and actresses. BUT THEN THERE IS ALSO GEN. GEORGE WASHINGTON ( Ian Kahn), who brings the great man to life. Every time that I see him make his first appearance in Season 1 Episode 5, I get goosebumps. He has done tons of research on his character--as have all of the cast on theirs--and he creates a living, breathing Washington that makes me have to ask, "where have all the leaders gone, long time passing."Watch this show, and then go to AMC.com and tell them to renew it for Season 4 because there just won't be anything worth looking forward to on TV next year if TURN is not back to lead us on the road to victory at Yorktown.

Love this series! A mostly historically accurate series of the major spy ring of the Revolution.
This is the only series realistically detailing Washington's NYC spy ring. TURN has a rich, historic texture and shows how the Revolution separated families and friends and the trauma and disruption every one endured thru the revolution that created the United States. The main character Abe Woodhull is part of the Culper spy ring and in season 3 his own father turns him over to the British even though he knows this means his son will hang. (I'm not giving the ending away!) Season 3 also includes Benedict Arnold's treason, but Arnold's frustration and desperate need for money and obsessive craving for recognition of his past services (Arnold was the one who won the Battle of Saratoga, not Gates) are realistically presented so that you get a deep characterization of the man who was one of Washington's finest, most trusted generals and how shocking and damaging his treason was. TURN also gives you a glimpse of the relationship between Washington and his young black slave who was valet, confidant and trusted companion, who was vital in Washington's final belief that slavery was wrong and led him to free all his slaves when he died. I found this to be one of the most interesting parts of the series: the slow evolution and change in character in the man who would become known as "The Father of his country.". Season 4 isn't available on DVD yet so I'll have to wait to see if it follows history: the woman involved in the Culpepper ring was captured by the British and just vanishes; historians have no idea what her fate was. We don't even know her name because only Washington know her identity and he never revealed it; all we have is the number she went by. (For further information read WASHINGTON'S SECRET SIX.) These were real people and the actors and actresses bring them to life. CAN'T WAIT FOR SEASON 4 TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS!

Geschichte mal anders
Ansonsten volle Kaufempfehlung!

TURN is the best TV series I have seen so far
TURN is the best TV series I have seen so far, the actors are brilliant, especially the evil overgrown schoolboy psychopath, Captain Simcoe, with his annoying high castrati voice. I hate him so much - but he makes me laugh. Also, Major Hewlitt, so prissy and stuffily...British! When he sings "Rule Britannia" it cracked me up! The only thing I don't like are the public hanging scenes - hideous and cruel! Why are we repeating this barbaric practice by watching it on television?
