Free Guy DVD [2021]

A guy called guy
One of those rare big budget movies that tries a relatively original concept. Free Guy sees Ryan Reynolds as Guy. Who works in a bank. Is unfailingly optimistic and positive at the start of each day, despite things going rather bad around him. And is generally a positive person. But he's missing something. A soulmate. Sighting a lady on the street one day who catches his gaze right off, he finds he's not actually Emmett in the Lego Movie, he's a character in a computer game. Who shouldn't be capable of independent thought. A remarkable journey of discovery awaits for both of them...You stop thinking Lego Movie after a quicker amount of time than you think. And if you just go with this film, you do have a very good time.Ryan Reynolds does play Ryan Reynolds. But at the same time he does get good character growth and a good character arc. The film does have some good solid plotting that gives it good narrative development and a very decent pace. It's not stretched and it doesn't drag out it's final act.Jodie Comer as the mysterious lady is good, but more interesting when her character is in Avatar form as she gets to act more when she is. Her real world love interest is played by Joe Keery. Steve from Stranger things. You might get a bad case of why does he look familiar and not realise for ages as I did, so there you go. Nice seeing him in a big budget movie. The supporting cast provide able support. Although director/actor Taika Waititi, as the villain, rather grates. He creates a very good character and antagonist who is very three dimensional, but you get the feeling every time he's on screen he's trying to be funny with it. And he's not. He's annoying when he tries that. This does play with some interesting philosophical concepts also, although perhaps not as much as it could have. But it doesn't force them on you.Gamers might find some of the depictions in here stereotypical. But there you are.And it's not suitable for the under twelves, with some mild innuendo and one line in particular. You'll know what I mean when you hear it. As they probably already have. Even so...It does rush itself at one point, but otherwise as mentioned pacing is good. There are some really good cameos also, some of which you really won't pick up on. And one won't mean anything to most Brits. But all in all, a pretty amiable watch, and a good time passer. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, Castilian Spanish, French, English audio described.Subtitles: English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish. Norwegian, Castilian Spanish, Swedish, French. It's a totally bare bones dvd, like most these days. Thus it goes straight into the main menu when loaded with no ads or trailers. And there are absolutely no extras.

Ryan does it again
is a 2021 American science fiction action comedy film directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, and a story by Lieberman. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as a bank teller who discovers that he is actually a non-player character in an open-world video game and becomes the hero of the story, trying to save his friends from deletion by the game's creator. Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi also star in the film. The film premiered at the Piazza Grande section of the 74th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland on August 10, 2021. Following a year-long delay because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Free Guy was released theatrically in the United States on August 13, 2021, in RealD 3D, IMAX and Dolby Cinema formats by 20th Century Studios. The film has grossed $321 million worldwide making it the seventh highest-grossing film of 2021 and received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the clever concept and compared it favourably to a combination of action video games and science fiction films such as Ready Player One, The Truman Show, The Matrix, Grand Theft Auto, and Fortnite.Only Ryan Reynolds can pull off a film with a plot where he plays a non-playerable game character and fill it with heart and soul and the gorgeous Jodie Comer holds her own with laughs a plenty.

Last half hour lets it down
Despite the poor reviews I was quite enjoying it, indeed some parts I found quite clever, for example the droll way that the NPCs carried on mundane conversations while users were racing around the streets with tanks and gunships creating mayhem for themselves. Then we got to the last half hour or so, when it switched from satire to horrible sugary sweetness. We had virtually identical syrupy goodbye scenes something like three times in succession, I was begging for something barbed to cut through the treacle but no such luck. Couldn't they fit those into one scene and at least limit the schmaltz? And then if you didn't already know that 21st Century Fox is now owned by Disney, the obvious Marvel and Star Wars product placements would soon clue you in. Ecch, that was horribly miscalculated.I /know/ that Reynolds and Waititi are capable of much better than this. So perhaps it was studio interference.I won't say don't see it, but temper your expectations! On the upside, the picture quality of the Blu-Ray was excellent, and I'm particularly pleased to see that they didn't bother with a 3D release. There were several special features on the disk which I haven't watched since I only tend to do so for classic movies whose production stories I care about.

THIS IS A GOOD MOVIE,BY MR REYNOLDS.BUT DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME BUYING THE 4K VERSION,ITS CERTAINLY NO BETTER THAN THE BLUERAY VERSION,AND FOR THE ASKING PRICE OF £25.00 IS NOT IN MY MIND NOT WORTH IT,ITS EVEN FREE TO WATCH ON DISNEY+ SO TO SUM UP A BIT OF A RIP OFF,ME THINKS.

Excellent!!!
The 4K ULTRA HD Blu Ray disc version of this film has greatly improved sound and picture quality over the standard Blu Ray disc version when played through a 4K ULTRA HD Blu Ray player and a 4K ULTRA HD TV with HDR (High Dynamic Range).

Loved it.
It's stupid, weird, a great idea. A bit like " Ready player one" from speilburg. But funnier. All the characters are brilliant. Special effects are excellent. If you want a fun action weird romp, this is it. Recommended.

Action packed
I was expecting a lot more from this movie, especially having Ryan Reynolds in the lead and being Disney, but it is a but of a RIP off of other recent computer game reality movies, still quite fun to watch, but could have been much more. The 4k is good, but not great, which is a shame because the movie has lots of colour scenes which would have looked great on 4k
