Halfway to greatness
The Cassandra Palmer series returns as strong as ever, providing a frantic but fabulously fun fantasy adventure! The book has high highs and low lows, ending up halfway on the road to greatness - and not just because the second part of Ignite the Fire is to be published separately due to length. The first half of Incendiary delivers the series at its best, with our trio of leads kicking butt and taking names in spectacular fashion, supported by some of our favourite secondary characters. The newest divine baddie in town, Zeus, is characterised in a fitting way with the right amount of charm and menace, leaving us looking forward to their next confrontation. The action flows so well, and the protagonists play off of each other so splendidly, that it's almost easy to forgive the rather abrupt changes to the story, whether that be the so-called "new Cassie" or the latest set of incredulity-inducing powers - such as batwings, soul-shifting and a metaphysical threesome involving Pritkin's subconscious as facilitated by his sentient Incubus alter-ego, amongst others. I hope the next novel will feature an honest heart-to-heart between the characters, including Mircea's uncharacteristic honesty, Cassie's resolution to tell Pritkin the truth, and perhaps a tad more self-reflection from her as she herself had been keeping John a secret from Mircea, and claims that she still loves them both. The book starts to drag after a while, and about half of it is weighed down by the same issues that made previous novels in the series so hard to get through. Some scenes are delivered in retrospective flashbacks rather than the more engaging active way they could have been written. The protagonist and her sidekicks - and as a result, us readers - are deliberately left confused as to whether the events are taking place on Earth or in Faerie, what time period they are in, and whether they involve the actual characters or only their minds or even souls. Pritkin is unconscious and entirely useless for most of the book, Mircea is mostly useless due to drugs and injuries, while Cassie's Pythian powers are either absent or acting up. It would just be nice if the books would let the characters be at their best more often, so that we could enjoy what makes them so great to read about in the first place. Aeslinn's machinations are gruesome but old news at this point, as it's hard to muster any enthusiasm for him after Ares, Jonathan, and Zeus. This isn't helped by the introduction of yet another side character, slowing down the end of the novel with even more backstories and flashbacks rather than allowing for a faster progression of the plotlines the characters set out to resolve. I suppose we'll have to wait for Ignite the Fire: Inferno to get a resolution, and Incendiary does end with a cliff-hanger.The division of the novel into two volumes isn't really a problem so it shouldn't hold anybody back from treating themselves to this gem, as the story and characters are leagues ahead of other Amazon-published series, making the book well worth the price. Although the exhausting latter sections didn't live up to the exceptional standard of the opening scenes, Incendiary is a great read overall, and the main gripe with Chance's books is - as always - that the sequel can't come fast enough!

Chance just keeps on bringing it!
I love this series, and Chance's skill for scene building is phenomenal. The descriptions are so immersive that getting lost in the story is effortless. I also love how complex the relationships in this series. There's a dynamic shift between Cassie, Mircea and Pritkin, and it just adds to the nuances of their relationship. I honestly cannot wait for part 2! And Chance, if you feel you need to do more 2-parters in future to get the full story out, I 100% support you in that! 5*

Each book in this series is better than the Last
I can’t wait for the next book in this series about Cassie Palmer and co. I don’t want them to end when I’m reading them. Just want the series to go on. Love the humour; love the humorous dialogue. So much happens it takes your breath away. If you haven’t read them stick them at the top of your list and read the Dorina Balsarab along with Cassie Palmer….. soooo goood!!!

Cassie in the middle of chaos yet again
I have loved this series since the beginning and even though it gets more and more complicated, the story of Cassie, the clumsy clairvoyant is one I always want to learn more of. This is non stop action and I do wish sometimes that we get more of Cassie in downtime, relaxing, being herself. But there's a war on and men to rescue...

Worth the wait!
The continuing crazy adventures of Cassie Palmer, chief seer of the supernatural world. All of Karen Chance's books are a roller-coaster ride from start to finish and this one certainly didn't disappoint. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down and am really looking forward to Part Two (which should hopefully be released shortly)Highly recommend reading the complete series if you're into fantasy adventure stories!

oh my !!!!!!
I don’t know how Karen Chance does it. Her imagination is off the scale. This story has everything and the build up for the ending is so clever. On a serious note it just goes to show that there is always two sides to a story. I really hope I don’t have to wait too long for part 2.

Funny and hard to put down
Urgh! I love this series soooo much and how realistic it is at times. The fact that Cassie is a mess and Karen doesn't try to beautify certain moments like during or after a fight, Cassie being a complete and utter mess in front of her lovers? Amazingly real I love it. I laughed out loud several times while reading this. I highly recommend it.
