Hayward AXV079VP Medium Turbine Spindle Gear Replacement Kit for Select Hayward Pool Cleaner

My local pool supply store wanted to charge me $120.00 for these same components. When I did my research at Amazon I about fell out of my chair being the repair kit was so much less expensive. My pool cleaner wouldn't move around like it used to and I was close to buying a new $400.00 dollar cleaner because I thought mine would be expensive to repair being it is older and has seen alot of use.On my cleaner the rotating head assembly that attaches to the hose section would not rotate without very noticeable skipping during rotation. So I knew there was a gear issue of some kind. I researched what made the cleaner work and this gear repair kit was the answer. There are bushings that wear out which hold several gears in place. When that wear happens, the mesh of the gears are too far apart and cause wear and binding. This gear set comes with all the parts to fix the whole turbine assembly. I chose not to attempt removing the two steel pins that come with the set as not to take the chance to break any plastic housings, only the bushings and gears that come supplied with the kit. The cleaner is easy to take apart and these gears made my machine work like new. My advice would be to disassemble your pool cleaner first, inspect it for any other areas of wear or damage and order all the parts from Amazon at one time to save time on assembly and operational use of your pool cleaner.Save money and fix it yourself!

If your Navigator is not turning and thus gets stuck in corners, this kit is likely your fix. First check there are no obstructions in the entry/paddle wheel area. Then check suction level with the clear plastic elbow shaped gauge that came with your Navigator. If all the flaps and feet are in good shape and not worn and it still won’t turn, then the gear system is probably worn with too much sloppiness and play. This kit will fix that. These parts along with the Gear box I ordered was easy to install (I used a Youtube video), and my Hayward Navigator runs like new. I gave it only 4 stars because I had a piece of material that got lodged in my Navigator and I shook the unit. Due to the hard shake, the teeth on the gears became unaligned and I had to take it apart and realign the round blue piece. I would purchase again in the future if needed.

Many videos show why these Navigators don't turn and move properly. One of the main culprits is the turbine gear and its associated parts. If your Navigator is moving sloppily and poorly, and it doesn't turn when it reaches a corner, or gets the hose all monkeyed-up, this kit should be the fix. I chose the original Hayward part kit because I've had issues with non-original replacement parts in the past. I am of the opinion that $42 + is a bit on the high side for a few pieces of plastic, but even though it costs more, the job is done right, and Bob's your uncle. Oh, and BTW - replacing the old parts with this kit fixed my tired Navigator.

Our pool cleaner was not performing as usual. It was going to deep end and staying. I looked at trouble shooting and decided to go with the most probable knowing it might be a process of elimination. I carefully took ours apart, taking photos at each step so I could easily reverse engineer. My husband said good luck when he saw the unit apart. I'm the pool girl at our house. Everything went back together beautifully, it was indeed what needed to be replaced based on trouble shooting. The ultravac is flying around the pool, corner to corner picking up everything in site.

These items are not easy to install, but that is not the fault of the supplier. The Hayward Navigator pool sweeper is not generally considered a "do-it-yourself project. Nonetheless it is poaaible for a pool owner to fix, and the sweeper works as if its brand new.

I would suggest looking up Hayward instructions for assembly and sequence for reassembly before installing. A complete cleaning and lubricating helps.
