Lovely story with colourful illustrations
I enjoyed reading the story and as a languages teacher I think this book could be used in the classroom but also at home with children learning Spanish as it focuses on Mexican traditions. I also loved the colourful illustrations and I could just keep a copy for myself (I mean a paper copy).I think the expressions used in the book are very authentic and not aimed at beginners in Spanish but you could ask children to focus on recognising key words only. It could be read by intermediate / advanced students of all ages too I would say. However I would recommend this book mainly tobilingual children and young Spanish students, and of course to Spanish teachers who want to use it in the classroom.

Excellent book for mixed culture children
I had never seen a book that explains so well the challenges faced by mixed culture children. As an expat I have faced the challenges myself; where you partially identify with both cultures but sometimes not fully with either. I am fully aware that these challenges are amplified for my own children. In particular, challenges related to expressing themselves in Spanish are depicted very nicely in this book. Fully recommend!

Excellent children’s story for learners of Spanish
The author has done a great job with this bilingual story. The language is simple, but also includes a good range of tenses and grammatical structures that occur in everyday language. The story itself has an important message of embracing your roots and of accepting those who are different. It also tells children how learning a language can be very useful, something which we often forget in the UK.References are made to Mexican traditions and dishes, but the dishes aren’t explained. It might’ve been nice to have had a glossary with the recipes or a quick description of what they are.I will be using this book in class with my students for sure.

Great teaching resource for multicultural education.
Loved the sensitivity towards other people and their cultures. This is the second book of Natalia's I've used, having paid full price for the printed edition of The Spanglish Girl, and the message they transmit is so important. A powerful classroom resource; definitely recommended.

Amazing story
I loved the story! I identify with little Gloria! The storyline is entertaining and I love how it immerses you in the Mexican culture.I believe the book is perfect to read and analyse in the classroom. It contains plenty of tenses and vocabulary. I love that it is written in both, English and Spanish, as the students can clearly see how different some sentences are in both languages and that we don’t have to translate every word as it is (also it avoids the constant “Miss, what does this word mean?” haha)I love it. It is definitely something good to have in the classroom.

Heart-warming
This is a beautiful tale with gorgeous images, especially for kids who (like mine) have dual heritage or kids whose friends are dual heritage or kids who want to learn more about other cultures. There are references to Mexican food, parties and the Day of the Dead. Utterly heart-warming!

A beautiful & heartwarming book!
What a beautiful and heartwarming book, teaching our children about cultures, languages and most of all - kindness and respect to one another. The grandma figure is so relatable, wise and lovely - can’t help but put a smile on everyone’s face and reminds us all of our supportive and caring grandmas! The format is great, given it’s written in Spanish and English, which makes it perfect for those bilingual or learning one of the languages.

Fantastic tale of two cultures
Love this story and the language used is perfect in both languages. The bright colours will help when using this in a classroom and I can’t wait to read this in the run up to the Day of the Dead. It is particularly good when teaching about other cultures and how people may feel left out and how wonderful if feels to be included. I also recommend La Chica Spanglish which went down well with my year 3/4 classes.

Wonderful story about mixed heritage
I really enjoyed this story. As a biracial mama, this is a very relatable story that I wanted to share with my daughter who also has multiple backgrounds. Thank you for sharing a mixed person's perspective.

Great multicultural book!
I love that this book describes the feelings of a multicultural and bilingual child. The author also talks about the many Mexican traditions that are so fun to celebrate. It gives insight to how many children feel and how they are also viewed by others. It’s hard to fit in. Some never feel enough of any nationality. But we should remember that they have the best of both worlds. This book embraces the growing number of multicultural and bilingual children in the world. The illustrations are also very colorful and attract the attention of young children.

Beautiful
A lovely book on dual heritage that I personally can relate to. I teach dual immersion, and I'll be reading this to my class (6-7 year olds are still emerging readers and probably can't read this independently). The messaging is lovely and I don't know of another children's book with this unique perspective.
