NTT Docomo NEC N-06D Medias 7" Wi-Fi Waterproof Tablet - Black/Silver

Pros: Waterproof, great build quality, very good screen resolution, nice charging stand, bluetooth works fine. Cons: Can't get it to update to a newer Android version, some Google Play apps aren't available for this Android version, so you have to "side door" older versions found on the web, No English manual. I wanted this for a waterproof swimming pool tablet for Pandora music. In this mode, it works very well. Update: After owning the tablet for three weeks a window popped up which indicated I could download a "major upgrade". Took about 30 minutes to download and install Android 4.0. I'll give it one more star.

First of all this is based on second pad. First one was dead on arrival would not turn on.You need to select English during initialization, otherwise unless you can read harikana you will be lost.Out of the box it has 2.3.x Android, and it can be upgraded to 4.0.4 and that is it. To do that you need to connect to WiFi, disable WiFi sleep and use Major Update option in settings. After you upgrade to android 4 you theoretically should be able to get 4.x patches, but this function is only works if you have Docomo Sim card and are on Docomo network. Which pretty much excludes most of Amazon buyers.

Instruction manual was in Japanese. Is running extremely old version of Android, and the "latest update" (v4.0 from 2012) fails to download every time. Really a shame, because it's water resistant and appears to be solid construction. Unfortunately, it's an overpriced paperweight.

Even though on first startup, you can select options for English but even after that many apps and props are in chinese even the on screen keyboard is half chinese,Can't seem to upgrade beyond android 2.3 to 4.0+Yes, you can probably find roms hacks/roots, other keyboards etc... but time is money if I have to spend 3 or 4 hours finding and figuring out rom hacks or roots to get it to the way it "should work as expected" that adds to the cost of the device (in time,... but time is money)
