From mood, concentration, focus, sleep, digestion, hormone regulation, and curbing cravings...this book touches on it all and gives a great overview on just how important a healthy, balanced, and sometimes unrestricted diet can play in our lives. As a personal trainer, I get asked about nutrition A LOT. This book is finally the answer i've been looking for when it comes to reading material to recommend to my clients! Good Mood Food captures both the complexity and simplicity of understanding and preparing a nutritious lifestyle. It backs up the notion that carbs are not the enemy, and sugar can be okay in moderation. No food group is made the villain, and its all backed up with evidence based science.The intricate ways in which different macronutrients and micronutrients interact and change the way our body absorbs certain substances is easily spelled out in small steps. All of these small steps are integral to the focused subject of that chapter (e.g. Sleep) and are woven together by the end of the chapter to show the big picture of how nutrition effects these areas of our lives. Within those chapters are also little subsections containing tips or graphs that offer a straightforward way to apply the principles being preached. Finally, the recipes offered at the end of each chapter provide a great starting point to take control of our nutrition and see the principles in action first hand. I have not yet tried any recipes from the book, but I can undoubtedly say this book is well worth it recipes aside. This book perfectly offers up the pertinent knowledge to guide a reader towards a wholesome healthy lifestyle while simultaneously dispelling and discouraging dangerous diet culture myths that so many people fall victim to.
