Nervous Nigel

Such a wonderful book! I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Christou through an online illustrator's community. She's a talented artist and a real sweetheart! As I was looking through her work, I was inspired to purchase a copy of Nervous Nigel for my nephew (and of course so that I could read it before giving it to him, hee hee).For parents and parents-to-be: this book is a great way to show your kids that you support them finding their own path in life, even if it's not what you imagined for them. It's also a great reminder to really listen to your kids when they confide in you, rather than dismissing their feelings. Even when re-reading it, I always tear up a little towards the end... Nigel's story still applies to me as an adult!For kids: the world of Nervous Nigel is colorful and vibrant, full of tactile texture and little details. It's a great introduction to more grown-up themes like fearing disappointment, choosing your path in life, overcoming self-doubt, and even starting a business. Nigel proves that instead of being disappointed in yourself for not fitting in, you can find ways to harness what makes you different in a way that helps other people.For everyone else: this book makes a great gift, especially for budding creative types. Us artists tend to have a lot of self-doubt! It's also a fun read if you get nostalgic about children's books like I do. I still love studying every page closely, hunting for details in each illustration. Nervous Nigel has a few surprises in this regard! For example: one of the spreads shows a school of fish swiftly swimming under Nigel as he floats down the river, trying to forget about his poor performance in the race. The fish seem to have their eyes on the prize, determined to reach their destination quickly... Except for one little fish, who's looking away and doesn't seem to enjoy swimming fast like the others.Can't wait to see what Ms. Christou comes up with next!

En casa nos ha sorprendido muy gratamente este libro, y es que la historia es muy ilustrativa tanto para los niños como para sus padres. Trata de un cocodrilo, el mas joven de una familia de campeones, que no está interesado en seguir los pasos de su familia, es más, solo de pensar en competir se pone super nervioso, pero no se atreve a contárselo a su familia. Por su parte, la familia no se da cuenta de lo que le pasa al pobre Nigel, que así se llama el cocodrilo, y sigue presionando para que se convierta en un campeón. El desenlace es muy original y educativo, ya que el pequeño Nigel se da cuenta de que no tiene por que seguir los pasos de su familia. Además de la maravillosa historia que cuenta, que produce mucha empatía hacia Nigel, el libro está muy bien editado, con tapas blandas, buena calidad de papel e impresión. Además, está maravillosamente ilustrado, con dibujos muy tiernos, que hace que quieras ayudar al pobre Nigel a salir de su apuro. El libro se lo compré a mi hija de cuatro años, y tanto a ella, como a mi hijo de 6 les ha encantado. Aunque el libro está en inglés, es un inglés infantil y básico, sin ninguna palabra complicada. Y además, por el precio que tiene ahora es totalmente recomendable. This is a lovely children's book - with beautiful illustrations throughout and a real message. Bethany is very good at relating a serious message to children in a delightfully whimsical and interesting way. Her previous book, 'Slow Samson', was a real hit with primary schoolchildren and this one will be too - a great way to get children thinking and empathising, in a fun and imaginative way.

I bought this after my son became utterly obsessed with the author's other book, "More than a Sheep" - it wasn't as good as that one but still a nice read.

Es una historia bonita sobre un cocodrilo a quien no le gusta hacer lo típico que hace su familia y busca algo que de verdad le haga feliz. Las ilustraciones son muy bonitas y a mi hijo de 3 años le gustó mucho. Ser diferente es muy guay!!! Es el valor que transmite

Es muy divertido y tiene buena moraleja. Por su precio es altamente recomendable
