Nikon D3000 For Dummies

I've had my Nikon D3000 for several years and have been trying to learn how to use it correctly on my own. Buying this book was the best thing I've done to move forward with my camera. This book is helpful and easy to understand. Julie Adair King explains each feature of the camera in detail with great tips along the way. I'm so happy that I bought this book. I highly recommend it for anyone with this camera! Thank you Julie Adair King!

I am new to digital photography and photography in general. After much research I decided to purchase the Nikon D3000. Upon making my purchase and pulling the camera out of the box, I was overwhelmed by all the knobs and buttons on the camera. The users guide which came with the camera really didn't do a good job at explaining what the buttons were actually for and didn't explain how to use them. I decided to purchase this book as well as a D3000 field manual (also form Amazon.com). I can honestly say I would be so lost with out this book. If you are going to buy just one book to help you understand the D3000 this one is it. The book is well written and explains everything this camera has to offer. I highly recommend purchasing this book if you want to learn how to use your new D3000.

I enjoyed this book. I am new to photography and have never taken a class. I wanted to experiment with shooting pictures while I am out hunting and fishing. Also to learn to take better photos of my family. I recommend this book if you own a D-3000 and want to learn all the functions to improve your skills.

I have been using a multifunction digital camera for about 10 years, but only printed out parts of the detailed manual, relying mostly on its 45 page booklet. For my new Nikon, I decided to start out with the Dummies guide, and have found it to be a tremendous help. I breezed through a lot of the topics that I knew, and learned a lot of other stuff that I didn't. The writing is clear, user friendly, and generously illustrated and cross-referenced. The layout progresses in a logical fashion, going from basic functions and point & shoot modes in the beginning, to more advanced functions in later chapters.This book has comfortably walked me through some functions that I never used on my old camera, making what seemed like an overhelming number of functions more accessible than I expected. I highly recommend this book and this author.

What can I say? This book is all I wanted and more. This book addresses the major focus points of dslr photography but also hits on everything this camera is capable of doing. At times I did have to reread sections to make sure I got the complete understanding and I took some notes but lets be honest, this stuff can be complex sometimes. I am a new dslr user and this book breaks everything down. What I love most is that when the author is noting how shots can turn out differently based on settings she always has comparison shots to display difference. This I think is the most important accessory purchase for your camera. Good luck and have fun but remember that this book will help you reach the camera's potential. Thanks

Only a few things to say/state! Julie didn't have to go to Wiley to have printed, perhaps other. Regardless of publishers, she is very exact with this particular camera; Nikon D3000 and perhaps with a few others. I made the right choice of books, not those that write of "generalities", but a book geared for what you purchased. The booklet that came with camera, only specifies a minimal on the useage. Julie's presentation explains the outside, inside and how to specifically use your camera in all aspects; lighting, distant, close-ups etc. and how to make a photo look its' best! As a writer, she is very explicit! Highly recommend ANY of her books on SLR cameras.

Rather than just thinking on the scale of the D3000, think of this book as a basic intro to photography book where everyone is following along using the same camera.I recently bought to a D3000 as a start to a new hobby, and I knew very little about photography overall. After reading this book I now know the basics of aperture, shutter speed, ISO, flash settings, how to achieve certain effects in photos, the difference in prime and telephoto lenses, and more.Using this book I feel like I was able to start getting much higher quality photos much more quickly than if I went about learning it on my own or using a general introduction book.Definitely recommend.

Having recently purchased a Nikon DSLR D3000, and wanting to get more from it than just using automatic modes, I set about to find a good book for complete DSLR beginners.I found this book to be written in easy to understand language, jargon is broken down so you can understand what it all means and gently pushes you along to want to take 'creative control' and just mess about with the settings, but understand the settings so you can begin to create the look you want.If you really are a complete beginner and have moved up from your point and click automatic to the world of DSLR, then I would recommend this book to you. If you already have a good idea what the settings are and know about fstops etc, then it might be a bit too basic and no doubt other publications that go into more technical details will be more appropriate.

Weiterer Vorteil: Der Aufbau des Buchs orientiert sich an der Denkweise der Benutzer, nicht am technischen Aufbau des Geräts. Es werden also nicht bloß Menüeinträge nacheinander abgehandelt, sondern die Autorin zeigt, wie man bestimmte Aufgaben lösen kann.Das Buch ist durchgängig farbig bebildert, wodurch die Erklärungen viel anschaulicher werden. Vermutlich aus Preisgründen wurde wohl billiges Papier verwendet, so dass die Qualität der Farbbilder eher einem Katalog oder eben einer Anleitung entspricht als einem Fotoband. Angesichts des günstigen Preises ist das ok. Außerdem entspricht die Ästhetik natürlich dem nordamerikanischen Geschmack.Durch die einfache Sprache und die vielen Illustrationen ist das Buch auch für nicht-englische Muttersprachler gut lesbar. Eine große Hilfe als Lern-Buch und auch als Referenz.
