I'm 5'10" and wear 36" inseam because I prefer long pants. These are the longest baseball pants I've worn, to the point I'd consider hemming them. They won't be as excessive on your son, but they are a good bet for anybody looking for long pants.I'd be nervous about the waist, though. Your son sounds thin, and the XL are very loose on me around the middle.
