Nico, an incubus born to inspire love rather than lust is something of an outcast
Nico, an incubus born to inspire love rather than lust is something of an outcast, both with fellow incubi and with the stuck up cupids who don’t want him muscling in on their specialty. His career path is a rocky one since he doesn’t fit in the entertainment industry with others of his species or in the rarified and deceptive world of cupids. “In Fair Verona” opens with Nico obliged to work at Marden’s Magic Emporium, having been rejected by his own species because of his unusual magical talents. When handsome but unpleasant warden Sir Galfridus comes into the shop, Nico gives him exactly what he needs to solve his law enforcement problems. When the warden winds up dead, Nico’s skills prove uniquely suited to solving murders and neutralizing a mage with a vendetta. I fell in love with this character and his charming personality—and also enjoyed the secondary characters, especially the Nico’s emporium co-workers, the trolls in love with each other and with the truly dreadful poetry their love inspires.

Short entertaining fantasy mystery
Rating: 4🌈A Prequel to Must Love Demons, the first book in Maslow’s Much Ado About Demons series, In Fair Verona is a short story that’s a mystery stocked full of characters spilling over from a universe (Marden’s Magic Emporium) that produced a 12 author Magic Emporium: Multi-Author Series › ...Magic Emporium: Multi-Author Series - Meghan Maslow .It’s also a prequel of sorts to Must Love Demons. That, as well as the fabulous Demon for the Win, gives the reader all the information they need to know about the Incubus Nicodemus Azertiran . The incubus, Nico, who’s magic runs to happily ever after, not one - night stands . Which got him kicked out of his legion.Nico is now working at Marden’s Magic Emporium . There arrivesSir Galfridus, First Knight of the Wardens. Nico serves Sir Galifridus to give him what the Emporium says he needs,as directed by Marden and off the knight goes! But the unthinkable happens when Sir Galfridus turns up dead. Then it’s Nico off to investigate. This is a neat plotted tale. Maslow is continuing to build her universe (s). Both the Magic Emporium and it’s employees and the new path that will be awaiting Nico. There’s a bittersweet element here, which is typical of her stories. As well of the type of humor, really bad poetry, we’ve come to expect from a certain couple and Maslow.I’m recommending this as a fun, entertaining read. Catch up on Nico before all the happenings in book 1!Much Ado About Demons:🔹Demon for the Win🔹In Fair Verona #0.5🔹Must Love Demons #1

A prequel to another series written by Meghan Maslow? I'm so there, so there! 😍
It takes a special kind of imagination to develop a romance-loving incubus whose 'special energy' is love, not lust! I was already in love with Meghan Maslow's Starfig Investigation series, so I was well prepared to dive into anything and everything else she writes. This winter, she spearheaded the Magic Emporium series and is making her contribution into a series that will be continuing indefinitely. Starting with this prequel mystery 'In Fair Verona', readers are able to find out how Nico the Incubus manages to get his position as a cupid. At the beginning of the short, we find Nico being sexually harassed by the much-admired knight Sir Galfridus as he works at Marden's Magic Emporium. The shop appears only when a creature is in dire need and Nico's task is to find an object that the knight should have to keep him safe and alive. When the knight is killed, Nico is compelled to investigate the matter and he manages to solve the mystery. Masterfully narrated by Darcy Stark, 'In Fair Verona' is an awesome start to what promises to be an absolutely fantastic series.

Good story, horrible grammar
Good story but Maslow really needs a good editor. I find it really hard to read books where basic verbs are conjugated incorrectly in the past tense. It’s sprang, not sprung; rang, not rung (sprung and rung are past participles and need “have” or “had” before them— e.g. not “The door sprung open.” And, for crying out loud, you can’t say, “He thought he may go home.” The sentence is in the past. “Might” is the past tense of “may.” Finally, you lie on a bed, you don’t lay on it. “Lay” is what a chicken does with an egg. This book’s grammar made my teeth hurt.

Fun!
Meghan Maslow is a new for me author and I'm so glad I found her. If you like your stories set in a fictional paranormal world, we with romance, a bit of action and suspense, fun but not over the top, no high angst, give this series a try. I absolutely loved it and just had to finish the story in one go.

A lover scorned
A really great short! It does an excellent job of setting up the world of Verona and the sweet romantic incubus Nico. The mystery of love gone wrong was intriguing and really shows off Nico's magic and the normal happenings of his world. This short was also a great setup for the Magical Emporium series as it shows more about Marsdens, how it works, and what it is like. Reading this works great as a primer for either the book or the series!

Enchanting
Once again we follow a very likable (anti-) hero into a brilliantly created fantasy world. Can't wait for "Must Love Demons"!

Everything a novella should be - a short juicy plot with well-drawn characters!
Nico is an unusual incubus demon: instead of inspiring and feeding off lust, his magic inspires true love in those around him. This has led to disastrous jobs at sex clubs and he currently works at Marden’s Magic Emporium. When star warden and self-obsessed pretty boy, Sir Galfridus, enters the Emporium, Nico gets embroiled in tracking down a crazed killer. This fun prequel novella introduces Marden’s and provides a taster to the wonderful Must Love Demons. Meghan Maslow is a brilliant urban fantasy / romance author and all her books are well worth a read. Nico is a decent, brave and clever demon and Darcy Stark really inhabits the character well in his audio narrations. This story has humour, the spice of danger, and wonderful world building that is effortlessly woven through the story. There is no sex scene in this novella but there are plenty in Must Love Demons.

Lovely but short 😥
Nico is one hell of a character - an incubus with Cupid magic: i.e. his magic incites not so much lust as true love 😯That kind of natural gift spreads a lot of happiness for the beings finding their soul mates, but makes his life hellishly difficult. This is a short story for the Marden's "Magic Emporium" in which Nico with his instinctive knowledge of love solves a very hurtful and sad case of multiple murders. His story of finding true love without magical help illustrates why one " Must Love Demons" (a " grumpy/sunshine fantasy romance").An enjoyable read worth your time.
