I do understand what you’re saying, I have all sons - one grew up to be a man mountain!! They are all different but all like you say, never a 12 wearing a 12. I’d definitely go up, like you have said, but check and see if there are any adult sizes - they could be cheaper. The nicest thing about guys is they don’t give a damn about the size, they are so happy you thought to buy them something cool. Check out the Minecraft hoodie. I have bought 5 altogether. Depending on how big your 9 year old is. I would recommend ordering a size 8 or a size 10/12 if they are a little bigger.
