CURT 12158 Class 2 Trailer Hitch, 1-1/4-Inch Receiver, Compatible with Select Kia Sportage

My big SUV blew the engine but I still need a way to pull a small trailer for a temporary solution. So why not my wife’s little car? I was hesitant at first, but decided it was a reasonable solution. The hitch is heavy, have some muscle. You'll need to remove a small plastic panel behind each rear tire, and lower the muffler by pulling two rubber hangers. The plastic panels cover the horizontal holes for hitch mounting. Held on by three button head clips. Hitch basically lifts straight up an in. You will install the four vertical bolts from the bottom first. They will need to be fully tightened before installing the horizontal bolts from the sides.Some hitches installed on small SUVs ruins the rear aesthetics. This one looks pretty clean. Not obtrusive. It’s heavy duty and installed perfectly. Seasoned mechanical engineer, I design and build stuff all the time. Very pleased with this product. Also got the Curt Euro 2” ball for my trailer. I pulled the trailer on a 3hr drive moving a bed. The only issue, was a little banging because my trailer was not really loaded down. Worth the price and I’m happy.

Overall, great piece, great quality, easy install in about an hour. I installed on a 2022 Kia Sportage. If you're reasonably handy, you should be able to get this done in your driveway. It helps to have a floor jack and some stands to support it, especially if you're doing it alone. There are some trim pieces to remove, but you can sneak it in past the bumper cover and then it's just 8 bolts to install. 17mm socket and a decent 3/8" drive ratchet or if you have air tools, even better. There are videos online to show you the way, but they tell you to drop the exhaust. That's extra work that you don't need to do, at least on the Sportage models.

Curt makes really great tow hitches, very easy to install, great quality. This was very easy to install on our 2022 KIA Sportage. Bolt holes were spot on to the mounting holes on the SUV frame. Definitely recommend this product.

Loved this product. It’s aesthetically well designed to show very little of the hitch under my Sportage. Installation would have gotten five stars were it not for the last hole not lined up perfectly (there are 4 bolt holes on either side). There’s a YouTube video on how to install and it’s easy to follow. Everything went smoothly until I got to the last hole, and try as I might, the bolt thread just would not bite because it wasn’t lined up well enough! Got to be really frustrating. My work around was to go to Lowe’s and get a similar-sized bolt that was pointed (very technical term here gives away my level of expertise). It allowed for the bolt to go in far enough in for the thread to bite. I let the Allen wrench do the rest.

I started the install on my own. But ultimately had to take it to mechanic. Seems one of the nuts welded to the frame wasn't tapped. Most bolts went in very difficult, so I would suggest professional install. Without a lift, getting leverage on your back under the car is very difficult. BUT, love the Hitch. Fit and finish are great. Paint even and complete coverage. Looks like a factory option. Thanks Curt!
