I don't do book reviews ....
I don't do book reviews........ I read the book and if I liked it I give it up to 5 stars, if I didn't then it gets a 2, if I didn't finish then it's a 1, that's it I'm afraid.I read it, I like it, I want more from the author.I don't write reviews that describe the content of the book as I don't see the point of telling everyone the storyline, plot or subject as I feel it spoils the book if you already know what it's about or what's going to happen. As with a vast number of Kindle books there might be the odd spelling and punctuation errors. After reading hundreds of Kindle books of all types and subjects you get use to them and they become less noticeable, unless there is an effect on the storyline. The more these errors effect the reading of the book the less stars I give it even if the story is a good one. Some of the books I read have been gifted to me by its author for review and my reviews and ratings are not biased in anyway.

Encompassing
This is an encompassing view of a horrendous period during WW1.There is a brief mention of the inherent importance of Verdun to the French people - but it is not fully explained. The battles involved many French villages - but there is no mention of the impact on the villagers themselves: their lives and livelihoods, their property, their families....some villages were totally destroyed. The book does tend to concentrate of the events from the 'Allies' point of view (rather than the German) and highlights the litany of bad decisions by the British. It's a succinct look at a vital part of European (and international) history.Once again: the total futility of war is confirmed - thousands died, thousands more were wounded, thousands more who survived were mentally affected for the rest of their lives......all for nothing!

Good summary
This is a good summary of the battle, or more accurately battles. As well as the details it has the author's interpretation with both the good and the bad. It was an horrendous period in history and it's good to know why and how it happened.
