Superior Can Opener
I had a more expensive can opener that lasted for about a year. Then, I decided to try a cheap one which didn't even make it a week. I knew my mother has had the same can opener for decades. I asked her the brand name and to my delight, it was available on Amazon at a reasonable price! What a night and day difference. It feels very sturdy as you use it. It really grips as you open a can, whereas that mechanism seems to be the issue with inferior models. The lid is left perfectly smooth around the edges, unlike the jagged edges that cut me on more than one occasion in the past. I hope to have the same experience as my mom and keep this can opener for years. You don't appreciate something so simple until you deal with duds. I hope to never have to do so again!

Don't waste your money!
I bought this can opener to replace a Kitchenaid opener that had begun to slip when turning the handle. A Farberware opener was replaced by the Kitchenaid one for the same reason. I loved the ancient Swingaway I used to have so I decided on this item. When it arrived I had black fingerprints on the grippers. No problem. That came off with washing. I did notice the metal was thinner and the opener seemed to be not of the same quality of my old Swingaway. Opening the first can, the handle was very hard to turn and started slipping before an inch of the can's top was opened. The handle is very small and hard to grasp as well. I do not have large hands! There is nothing about this opener I remotely like, therefore I will haunt thrift shops hoping to find an old Swingaway, knowing I won't since no one gets rid of them. They were indestructible. My words to prospective buyers: Don't waste your time and money on this piece of scrap metal! Too bad I can't give this a zero stars rating.

Need an awesome can opener? This is it!!
We always love swing a way can openers! They are the good old fashioned can openers that don't fail for many many years! They will eventually get dull like anything but I've had mine for 3-4 years now and it's still working wonderfully! If u want it to last to its full potential, don't put it in the dishwasher, rinse after each use and let dry! Make sure there isn't any food residue on the blade (acidic foods like tomato sauce etc that will cause rusting. Or sweetened condensed milk that needs a little scrub to get off.) Price is so worth its longevity compares to any I've bought from stores. Including Xyliss, Kitchen Aid, Farberware. None can compare!

Cheap made poor Quality
This is cheaply made. I will not ever purchase again. I have a swing away from the '80s which is why I purchased this one and it is definitely not the same. It does not even hardly cut the cans and you have to hold it very tightly just to get it to turn and it keeps slipping off of the can. This is poor Quality. Really just want my money back. This can opener just sits in the drawer not getting use because it's to frustrating to use when it doesn't cut well. I still keep using my swingaway from the 80s and even though it's old it works better than the new one. This can opener sucks

NOT the same as my older one!
*(In the images, my older (10-years old or so) 'Swing-a-way' can opener is on the left, the new one is on the right).New one is about 3/4 size of older one AND DOES NOT SWING-A-WAY! Grrr...That's why I liked that brand; it made it easier to clean. That's it's MAX opening in picture; barely anything! (About 45 degrees, compared to the 180 degrees of my older one).It is harder to open cans because of its smaller size. It did open a can lid; it was just harder to turn crank handle compared to my older, larger one. My older one was effortless.I think I'll go back to Ace Hardware where I originally purchased my older one and buy a full-size one for $10.I'd return the newer one, but unfortunately I threw away the packaging, so I'm out $8.

MADE IN USA
There are several posts on this and similar Swing-A-Way can openers suggesting these are made in China and not of the same quality. Well, the compact can opener I purchased from Amazon still says "Made in USA" and is just as good as the older one I have. This is a spare/second one that I have just in case we're without power for any length of time and the older one I have fails (breaks) because of the old saying: "One is none and two is one".I have large hands, but this is not exactly "compact". I'm not sure how much larger the full size ones are, but this is plenty big and I guess small enough at the same time.ETA - It broke and will no longer rotate around while opening cans. It just spins. It will open if you tediously move it a few MMs and then push it down again. :(

Doesn't open cans
It literally doesn't cut through cans. I can puncture the top, but turning the handle doesn't advance the cutting at. Not breaking, so technically sturdy and durable, but also doesn't fulfill basic function.

Still A Great Quality Can Opener
I ordered this on behalf of my mother and Swing-A-Way can openers are still a top quality item and has little if any difference in said quality by looking at it from an old one we had for at least 20 years and finally wore out. The only real difference is that the old one was made in USA and had it stamped right into the metal. This new one was made in China and only says that on the packaging so we will see if it can stand the test of time as the old one did. I just wonder why they sent their manufacturing away from here.

Finally - a can opener that actually works.
The Swing-A-Way can opener has been my go-to for years but it's become hard to find. This is exactly what I was hoping for.

Do not buy!
A real piece of junk!!Not even worth the 1 star I had to give in order to write this comment/ warning. My wife has mobility problems and can't hold onto the opener handles to operate because it requires too much force. All the reviews when I ordered it said it was easy to use. Now, after I bought it, the reviews have changed to all negative comments. Also, less than a month and less than 10 cans opened, the turn handle weld broke and now won't turn to open cans.Just spins freely. The hand grips slip off while trying to use it too.Absolute garbage and a huge waste of money!!!
