A beautiful celebration of fantastic dads.
A dad does not have to be a superhero or an astronaut to be awesome; it is what is inside that matters most. In this story, a young boy shares his feelings about his dad, juxtaposing him against other dads he sees in the world. Though his dad is not super busy like some can be, he is important to this boy for everything he is. Whether baking cookies, tending the garden, or reading a bedtime story, the dad in this book is truly fantastic. The design of this book is extremely approachable for young children. A limited amount of text appears on each page and it follows a comfortable rhyming pattern. Occasionally, the font is enlarged or changes shape to add to the visual appeal of the book as well. While the illustrations are the primary feature of the story, the text is placed as an intentional accent to the visuals. From the first page, readers notice the watercolor design of the illustrations and the soft hues used to create them. Recognizable landscapes and backgrounds connect readers to the story, and inclusions of the little boy’s artwork add another familiar dynamic to the images. The dad and son in this story are depicted with dark skin and hair and appear in a community that varies in skin tone. Expressive faces and interactions build a sense of appreciation and love into the story that is mirrored in the text, as well. This artfully crafted book is filled with emotion and emphasizes the good feelings that come from having a dad who is as attentive and supportive as the one featured in this story. It is a highly recommended addition to library collections for young children, especially to be read aloud in celebration of the fantastic dads in the world.

Great especially for families with sick mom or single dad
I got this for my 4 year old son to read with daddy on father's day. It is an impodtant book to me because I have severe chronic illness, am very low functioning and am not able to do a lot of "mom" things that my husband has also taken on for us. Things he normally wouldn't have done like being the grocery shopper and baker and bath giver and bedtime story reader. It is real for our son and it is nice to see daddy be appreciated for those things. It also is full of fun things they like such as kite flying and making snow angels. It reminds dads to be present with their kids and not so distracted without saying those words. Great especially for families with a sick mom, a single dad, or a dad that just happens to do all of those things anyway. It isn't a long read. The dimensions of the book are larger and the illustrations are soft and simple. The hardback is sturdy. I recommend.

Great book focused on dads, but a little pricey
I've read a couple books about dads and they're usually pretty cutely done. This is a fun book also - not even a mention of mom anywhere to be seen, get out of here moms! This book is for dads only! It explains right away that not all dads are astronauts or superheroes...and really from there it goes into some fun pages that essentially explore the notion from the movie Hardball where Keanu Reeves tells the kids that he is "blown away by their ability to show up". For all the imperfections that so many of us have, the bad stuff and the difficulties that we sometimes face and encounter do as we grow and try to become better people, so many times it is literally about us as dads putting in the time and showing up that matters to the kids. Great illustrations. I love it. Maybe a bit pricey for my taste, but a great book!

Cute Book
I got this book for my husband as a father to be Father's Day gift. I echo the sentiment that going into all the things dad hasn't done doesn't add much to the message of the book. If anything, the mention that "dad isn't very busy" excludes my husband and probably a lot of other dads out there. A dad can be busy and still find the time to do these activities with their kid. We will just overlook that page in particular because the quality of the book is nice, the artwork is stunning, and the representation is nice to have.

A sweet story celebrating Dads.
This story covers a lot of talents and traits that aren't displayed very often with Dads. Such as baking, gardening, story telling, etc. Even though Dads often do these types of things, they're just not talked about very much in literature. This story seeks to remedy that a little. It doesn't demasculinize men at all as it does this (at least in my opinion). Because throughout the story it only shows the Dad with the child and the child says "every day is special when it's just my Dad and me", it does feel like this story is a tad more geared for single Dad families. Still I think this is a cute story and we'll be adding it to our collection for when we need to celebrate Dad a little more.

Dads are Wonderful and Lovable
There are lots of lovely books about mothers, but I can't think of any books that make the most of having a great dad. I love the Berenstain Bear books, but the dad in those books is a lovable doofus who doesn't do anything right. So, I am happy to see My Dad which cutely and sweetly describes a great dad.Told by a happy little girl who describes the ways her dad spends time with her. Very sweet with gently colorful illustrations that look like real people--not fairy tale people or animal dads.I will be seeing my grandchildren soon and know they will love this book. They also have a great dad.

Father's Day gift
I got this for my kids ages 3 and 7 to give to their dad for father's day as they love when dad reads to them. This book is about a son and father both are dark skinned who do things together. I was hoping it would mimic some of what my kids do with their father. My kids love books regardless. The best part of the book is the last page, "I love the time I spend with Dad-he's the best a dad can be, and every day is special when it's just my dad and me." This book makes a good gift and for young kids.

Beautiful book and story
The story is lovely and celebrates the simplicity and importance of a father-child relationship through the eyes of the child. The illustrations are incredibly beautiful and the compositions and attention to detail from the endpapers throughout the whole book make it really magical!
