Great DIY replacement for 2012 X5
My 12 year old X5 Parking brake switch broke (the plastic that holds the switch in place on the rocker) like many others around this age. I found this item here and watched a couple videos on the replacement process. I spent under $10 on a little vinyl console removal kit the prevent scratching and proceeded to do the switch replacement myself. You have to be careful removing the console cover around the switch since one side near the gear shift is a bit narrow. Once that is done, the other challenging part is unplugging the cable from the old switch and then getting that cable plugged into the new one. The challenge is due to the cable being quite short. All in all, this was a worthwhile purchase that I would recommend to other DIY folks out there.

Easy replacement that works great
The switch broke off on mine so I needed to replace it. This took all of 5 minutes to replace and it works great. Saved me a bunch of money

Buy if you want Parking Brake Malfunction
This isn't the easiest of jobs, but not hard. Biggest issue is removing the black trim around the iDrive and shifter. Must use plastic trim tools and take your time. That trim will likely want to bend to the left of the shifter as its a narrow plastic portion.Anyway, for this parking brake part I bought on Amazon, looks good and feels good. But once installed, I received a "Parking Brake Malfunction" notice on my iDrive screen and also a flashing yellow "Park" light on my instrument cluster. I decided to install the old one with a broken park button and all went back to good. When removing the new one to go back with OEM original, the new part completely came apart when trying to disconnect the connector. Such a joke! Now off to the dealership :(2011 BMW X5 E70
