Anne of Green Gables
i love this book so much. it gives me this wonderful feeling and makes me want to go walk along Lovers Lane or chase Dolly the jersy cow out of an oat field myself. L M Montgomery creates a wonderful and touching world and beautiful characters. Now, I'm not one who cries at books but when Matthew Cuthbert died the first time i read it i cried. i love love this book and the rest of the books are wonderful too. if you like Anne Shirley, you would like Billy, from Where the Red Fern Grows… also touching and i cried at that one too. enjoy the book!

One of the best series of books in the 20th century!
Anne with an "E" is a character that I should never forget. She in her own words says that she makes lots of mistakes even though she tries not to. The good thing is that she doesn't make the same mistake twice. Anne's use of words is unreal; her ability to talk and talk is tiring to some but not all; her ability to retreat into another world of imagination is enduring. Anne's story touches the life of the reader with hope, joy, laughter, and sorrow. It can be read again and again.

Great Collection!
Despite being written for a younger audience, I am so enjoying these books; they are wonderfully descriptive and I find myself laughing out loud every so often at the various antics of the characters. You can easily 'see' the setting and events unfolding, as though you are among them; so potent are the descriptions. This is a great collection for young readers to start on, the content and quality is excellent, certainly compared to some of the books available in this day and age.

Simple sweet tale of a charming young gile
I bought this package because I was going to Prince Edward Island. The first book is charming, and helped me envision what life was like in this rural community a century ago. I am gradually wending my way through the remaining stories. They are simple, descriptive, and best, they are an antidote for the current complex, even violent, books that fill my kindle library.

Sweet, wistful
tldr: Sweet, wistful, left me with a sore but joyous heart.I just started on goodreads and am looking forward to reviewing each book I read. Since I just started, I am also reviewing books I read in the last week or so.I picked up the boxed set of Anne of Green Gables on my kindle awhile ago and finally settled in to read them, finishing the last one (Rilla of Ingleside) last Wednesday. I read these first as a child, then several times since then. I have always, always adored them. I cried on multiple occasions; the characters are written so tenderly you can't help but cry as they grow and blossom through life. This is character development at it's finest. I was listening to Stephen King give a talk on writing once where he basically said plot isn't really worth anything, the real value is in characters and the situations they fall into. And this book is "living" proof of that. There is no real plot except for these characters growing and experiencing life at it's fullest. We get to watch Anne grow from a talkative, bright, inquisitive little girl whose impulsiveness lands her in predicament after predicament. And as she moves through the little storms of girlhood we see her learn and mature and develop into a bright, dignified, clear-eyed young woman and then further into a patient, sweet-tempered, loving wife and mother who still looks wistfully at sunsets and adores the mayflowers. And it's not just Anne we see develop as a character. We see the woman who cared for her develop from a stiff, stern woman who hides her love deep in her heart to a more gracious, more gentle-natured woman. We see Anne's children change from loving, playful children to young men and women who face head on some great difficulties in the world.I am not so sure Anne of Green Gables pass the "real" test. So many people think it isn't good literature if the characters aren't "real" - which they really mean they are characters with a negative outlook on life. Characters that swear, drink, do drugs, and in general throw themselves into the apathetic depressive state that so many modern characters find themselves in. If this is your definition of a "real" character (I'm looking at you, Gone Girl!), then Anne of Green Gables is not for you. You may find some "realish" characters in these books, but overall the main characters are joyous and full of a sweetness and vitality that is sometimes heard to believe in today's world. I like to think it's real, that we are meant to be this way. But then again, I never claimed to be a realist.

A Treasured Collection of Anne Shirley books for all those who love to read
I enjoyed reading Anne's life in books. I am a great fan of the Anne Shirley dolls of the 1930's, and have quite a large collection of them. Last month, my husband and I took two of our grandchildren to see this very famous house on Prince Edward Island after they read Anne of Green Gables. I would suggest all mothers have their daughters read this wonderful collection of books. I am surprised at the number of school children who have not read, or at least seen Anne of Green Gables here in America. Prince Edward Island, in Canada, is a wonderful place to visit as well as enjoy a tour of the setting for all Lucy Maud Montgomery books.

Great Series
I fell in love with the Anne of Green Gables shows, and later The Avonlea television series. It was years before I realized the series was based on books. I have read the entire series, as well as everything else she has written and enjoyed every book. I now own all of the books in the 'Anne' series.Although, I am NOT into romance or chick flicks and prefer drama, action, sci-fi, comedy, or thrillers; the characters and storylines offer something for everyone. One can laugh and cry, relate to, and cheer for, the characters & their story.

Missing two books
This is a great price for owning a digital copy of these wonderful books. However, it does not actually include all 8 Anne books. Anne of Windy Poplars and Anne of Ingleside are both missing. It's odd to me that this would be advertised as a complete set with such a glaring omission. Oh well, At least I have 6 of the 8 on my Kindle now...
