The generator broke after one hour of break in at low with zero load

I did a lot of research before choosing a generator, we went with the IQ3500 because it was well rated. We followed the instructions, added the oil..etc. Ran the generator for one hour on power saver mode with zero load. Everything worked perfectly. About a month later, I decided to start the generator up for another run, the thing was bouncing all over the place, stuttering, barely staying on. I stopped it and looked inside, oil was leaking all over the place. Took it to a generac licensed shop (Gentech), it's been there for over 1.5 months now and they're giving us the run around. We dont have time to work on it they said, it is what it is.. All in all, completely disappointed with our generator, we paid good money for it, brand new and it's broke, cant get it repaired.. I would not purchase again.

Little Beast if your not patient! Must read before you try starting......

I’ve been around small engines all my life and this one is a beast. I highly recommend filling the oil and fuel a full day before you use it. The carburetor comes bone dry, and won’t self prime. I did not do this and after pull starting 40 times it would run and die, fiddle with the choke to make it stay running and then die. Finally it would start running and then die a minute later, than 5, than 7 and eventually 15 minutes later before it would stay running.I felt like I was trying cross fit with the pull cord. But It is my fault for not letting the carb self prime with fuel. These little motors have tiny carbs and small ports, so you need to be patient and let the air work itself out. Just fill it up and let it sit, maybe pull it with the choke on and then wait a good while. After the initial carb priming it runs as good as any other 2000+ generator.

As is suppose to be

I just receive it . Overall look (cosmetic) is fine. Connected the battery, filed up with oil, gas and started. Quite simple. It runs like a charm with absolutely no issues. I plugged in few power tools and they run fine too. I let it run for about an hour because I want to change oil. I have the feeling that it's a good unit. Down side is the missing wheels but for me is not a big concern as I'm really handy and I'll adapt some. I intend to instal remote start too as I did it to my other "Champion" generator. Compared with some misfortunate customers, I assume "luck" has a role too in all this purchasing experience. I'm happy with my choice and wish good luck to future customers.

REBRANDED H. Freight 3500 inverter gen

I researched every available generator in the 2kw - 3kw range and landed on the Generac 3500 because it seemed to be a fair price and a reputable brand. I paid a premium for the generator over the HF 3500 because I specifically wanted to NOT buy a generator from Harbor Fright. Upon arrival the unit starts and runs nicely and seems quiet, but upon further inspection I noticed the internals looked suspiciously similar to the HF model that my friend has. So I put them side by side. Turns out that inside the pretty orange steel case it’s THE EXACT SAME GENERATOR, part for part as the Harbor Freight unit. I know rebranding is common among smaller generator brands, but from GENERAC??? Come on. Additionally, the spec sheet lists the engine type as “Generac OHV” which at least implies it’s an in-house motor. Nope. Seems a bit deceptive to me. Literally the ONLY difference inside is the valve cover which was cast with “Generac” instead of “OHV” which the HF unit has. I basically paid $350 more for a heavy steel case and no wheels. Won’t be buying from Generac again.
