Shogi or Japanese Chess Book of Board Game Strategy

Useful information, if one can find it
It's almost like the book is written backwards. The introduction is vague and perfunctory, not very useful. The author then goes into describing traps to use and avoid while playing, which does no good at all if the reader is new to the Japanese version of chess. As a matter of fact, the most important information for a new player---which pieces are what and how to move them, as well as the various ways to notate moves---is near the end of the book. As a matter of fact, the two examples of playing the game are confusing, because they use non-algebraic notation methods that are difficult to decipher, with the second example especially confusing, since it seems to shift through all of the various methods throughout the game, forcing the reader to rely on the pictures of the pieces at given moments.I recommend this book for advanced beginner through intermediate players of shogi. Its help in understanding tactics and strategies makes it worth reading, as long as the author stays consistent with whatever notation method is in use. I think new players will find this book a bit too in-depth to get much out of it. There are much better books for beginners available, with a few of those written by professional shogi players that have been translated into English.

ottimo libro / good book
I don't like westernizations of the pieces, but that doesn't mean the book is not good, the topics are the ones that can help beginners, good job
