How do i know which gdp filter to buy for an ultima vii ro system?  thanks

To find the membrane size without removing it from the housing, find the drain line coming out from the outlet side of the membrane. (I should be the black or sometimes red tube) Follow the tube starting at the membrane outlet and find the flow restrictor, it will be a small cylinder about 3/4" diameter or 1 1/4" diameter and between 1 to 4 inches long, (depending on how old your system is.) somewhere on the flow restrictor you will find a number stamped in the plastic. If the number is between 150 and 250 you have a 24gpd membrane, if the number is 300 to 400 you have a 36gpd membrane, if the number is 400 to 500 you have a 50gpd membrane. If you don't find a number on the flow restrictor or if the number isn't in the listed range you may have to remove the membrane from the housing to see if there is a model number on the membrane element. How do I know if the membrane needs to be changed?

The only way to know for sure is to test the water with a TDS meter. You need to test the tap water feeding the RO system, then test the RO water; what you want is a reduction in TDS from the tap water to the RO water of 90% or more to know if the membrane is still working. When the TDS reduction is less than 90% then it is time to replace the membrane. When you purchase our filter packs it will come with an instruction booklet that explains in more detail how to test your membrane. Also the manufacture of most membranes say the expected life span of a membrane is 3 to 5 years. If your membrane is more than 5 years old then you should probably replace it.
