Great movie

I love this movie. The credits open with haunting scenes of history that intertwine the players and then moves to the beginning - a scene that is all too familiar in today's world. A man has an emotional breakdown and takes his step-daughter hostage. Jackson employs his negotiating skills while stepping over the line to successfully save the girl. Amidst both criticism and acclaim, his colleagues celebrate the successful end to a hostage situation. As the celebration wears on, it comes to light that an informant knows who has been embezzling from the police fund and there are officers involved in the theft as well as an IA agent. Jackson's counterpart is murdered and he is framed for his murder. To vindicate himself, he confronts the IA agent which starts a roller coaster ride that will leave you guessing until the very end. VERY satisfying thriller!

After Samuel L. Jackson is framed for stealing money from the police pension fund and killing his partner he takes hostage to figure out the truth. Kevin Spacey is the police negotiator trying to talk him down. The role allows Jackson to do his classic angry man. There’s a hilarious situation where he’s talking to a policeman and trying to teach him never to say no during negotiations but he keeps on saying it. It reminds one of the scene in Pulp Fiction where he tells a man not to say what but he keeps on doing it anyway. Spacey is very smart and professional. There’s a nice tit for tat between him and Jackson where Spacey keeps on hanging up on him to re-establish some authority. The movie also does a good job confusing the audience about who’s behind everything. It makes for a good police drama.

Even though it has Kevin spacey in it.... I remember watching this with my Daddy. Will always remind me of him. This is a edge of your seat movie. Intense and amazing. I'll watch it while folding laundry. It's a must see, even with Kevin (ick)

I gave it 4 stars which means its a good movie but not great. I enjoyed watching it but wont feel the need to watch it again and im the type who would watch it again the next day if It was great. But otherwise its still a good movie. Its predictable and even the trailer indicates the general plot and ending. He will prove he is innocent and who is really guilty. But what made the movie good, are the details and how it unfolds. Plus him being one of the best, it changes any common hostage scenarios and makes it a lot more interesting, and that part is different and also why it was good.

Great cast. Well written screenplay. A top notch police negotiator, after being falsely accused of killing his partner, (Samuel L Jackson as Lt. Danny Roman), knows he's been set up, takes hostages and holes up in the Chicago Police Internal Investigation Services Unit . Kevin Spacey as Lt. Chris Sabian, another crack police negotiator from the North Side is called in to try to talk Danny down. Meanwhile, David Morse as the Tactical Commander, is itching to breech to save the hostages. Roman is being set up to take the fall for corruption in missing money from the Police Pension fund, His friends and fellow officers cannot be trusted. Paul Giamatti, a police snitch, is in the wrong place at the wrong time and is included in the hostages Roman controls. Incredibly funny and talented, he adds comic relief to the intense and fast moving storyline along with Danny Roman. A good book or movie will grab you in the first few minutes and have a great, if not explosive (pun intended) ending. This one comes in second to Scarface on my list of favorites. This one has great special effects, show a well trained police sniper who sympathizes with Roman. As Roman says in the movie, "We are here to find out who killed Nate and who is stealing from the pension fun, and we are NOT leaving until they found!"

While the item was brand new, the disc itself still contains many marks and minor scratches.

he is being framed and he will do anything to find out , who the real bad guys are... the movie withstands time. it's still a great movie , after all these years.kevin spacey is running the show or at least he thinks he is. he thinks he is the best at his job, unless he is negotiating with his wife and daughter.

Grab onto something all along the film, its permanent tension unfolds in so many aspects that is difficult to sum it all in one review. By the way the casting is gorgeous. Only thing is some psychological unreal or contested theories of truth telling but besides that this master piece creates great suspense in apple-pie order.The bonus features are ok but not required or even enjoyable... in my opinion. Enjoy the movie!

I was pleased with my purchase I been after this film for a long time and I finally got it, thanks to Amazon.

A good dvd

An excellent dvd with an all star cast. Definitely one to watch over and over. The item came very quickly and well packaged.
