... a very high quality welding helmet for a really good price. The plastic is soft and flexible
This is a very high quality welding helmet for a really good price. The plastic is soft and flexible, the head band is a ratchet type with a nice cloth pad on the forehead. Nice clear viewing area, solar powered with a battery back up(included). Also included is a spare clear lens. Shade adjustment from 9-13,sensitivity and delay adjustment. Overall really comfortable to wear and works great, for the price it can't be beat.

Excellent Hobbyist Helmet
Excellent helmet for the price. I was looking at other more expensive helmets and stumbled upon this guy and decided to take a shot. I had use Lowe's $80 helmet often at a shop I used to work at and knew it wasn't too great and this seemed (on paper) to be better. BOY WAS IT! The lens is unbelievably clear for a $50. When not in use the lens is pretty bright, significantly more so than the Lowes auto-darkening helmet which for a less skilled welder, is critical to see your work once the helmet comes down. The extra lens cover is nice and the head strap tighteners actually stay tight so far unlike some other cheap helmets I've used before.I've also used $250 dollar Lincoln Electric helmets and while this doesn't touch those, it is an absolutely incredible buy for $50. I'm giving it a 5 Star because of it's price point, obviously not the same quality of a helmet 5 times it's cost though. Also to note, with a little bit of rubbing alcohol, the Metal Man stickers on the side come off so if you are a dork like me, you can sticker the hell out of your helmet starting from a clean slate.

Good to start off with. Not a longterm solution.
Have used this hood for a while. Its a good hood to use to start off with. After about a year I noticed sometimes it doesnt really fully darken.

Helmet doesn't protect the eyes well.
A welding helmet should protect your eyes, that is it's only job. This helmet fails at that job in two ways.First, it has less sensors than the more expensive helmets; this is ok in many situations, but if anything gets between the sensor and the weld, your eyes will be exposed to an undarkened view of the arc. This happens more than you think... your hands, arm, or even the part being welded on can interfere with the sensors.Second, and most critical, is that this helmet does not darken enough for arc welding. I tried it on both a mig and tig machine, with the helmet settings maxed, and both times was left with images of the arc for hours, and sore eyes the next day. You need to spend the $$ and protect your eyes... you only get two.

Auto dark works real well and shade adjustments are real nice.
It's an OK helmet for home welding. Auto dark works real well and shade adjustments are real nice.

Badass helmet for beginners and experts
This thing is pretty damn cool. It's also pretty damn fancy too. In all seriousness I love this thing. The auto darkening view-piece can be removed from the helmet so you can tweak the settings first. That was cool since I've watched my buddy try to adjust his helmet while it's on his face and it's hilarious. This one here allowed me to actually set the knobs on my couch with a lighter spark for a template. The third picture shows the knobs but in-case anyone's curious they are (Left to Right) 1. Sensitivity 2. Level of Shade and finally 3. Delay. These are probably the coolest parts of the helmet. I was able to adjust the auto-dark sensitivity to the spark of a lighter flint before I tried to weld, which was a big plus because I didn't really wanna get lit up on the first arc and then adjust. The shade level is neat but since I have a GMAW and FCAW welder I leave it at 10ish. It really shines if you have the ability to do all styles of welding since you can use this helmet for all. The delay was something I didn't think I'd use at first but now it's the only one I adjust. Basically it allows you to change the time from when the arc stops and when the helmet stops shading. For small and precise stuff I love that I can set it to almost instantly stop shading when I let off the gun to inspect. For heavy stuff like frame welding or my truck's exhaust I like to set it a little slower since they're usually slower passes. It was annoying at first to find the sweet spot where the sensitivity didn't catch the glow of the metal and set off the shade, but also switch back quick enough so I didn't have to sit there waiting on the delay like I was blind.

Happy customer!
My husband loves his new helmet. Light weight, good price and high quality. We were paying twice as much at the stores for cheap material and could not find the replacement shields. Highly recommend *****
