Genius writing style
Never before have I been stopped so many times in my tracks to re-read, to savour. Such masterful portrayal of circumstance and contingent. Interwoven with humour both dark and warm that only comrades would know. With vivid, relatable, creative clarity, Geraint invites you to step into the story. Full immersion. The experience is extraordinary.

A Very Good Read.......But
I am enjoying this but I've found it to be a bit dark and depressing. It does recreate a soldiers life excellently but when everybody dies around you and your best friend becomes a PTS sufferer it does get a bit depressing. However after saying that I can fully believe that being a combat soldier in the 1st century or the 21st century must have been as described in this book. After all the author is an ex soldier. It would have been nice to have some lighter breaks in this book but alas there isn't.I will read the next book just find out what happen Corvus so I'm willing to suffer feeling a bit depressed. Maybe Corvus will get some lighter moments in the next book.Update;I've just completed reading the last few pages and can now complete my review. The Roman Eagle was symbol of power across the then known world serving under it was more or less a band of brothers it was regarded as symbol of power. Corvus questions his own participation in all of this. The killing of defenceless people eventually makes him realise that being a standard bearer (Roman Eagle SPQR) is not entirely what he wanted to be.

Excellent Historical Thriller
Excellent Historical ThrillerEnjoy this read from start to finish.Great pace kept through, with some nice twists along the way.Can easily tell that this story has written by someone who has served in a war zone, along with their comrades. Heartfelt and violent in equal measure.

Quite a good story
This is quite a good story, well written, which holds one's interest till the end. A must for lovers of Roman Britain.

Before Blood Forest, the journey begins.
I bought this book expecting part 2 of the story, continuing on from Blood Forest ( now on sale under a new title - naughty!) but its not. This goes back to the origins and history of Corvus prior to that book. I did enjoy it, though, the detail is very good, you are almost there with the Legion. Great character development with his brother. All in all a good read, and a great backstory to the main character leading on.

Enjoyed this
Cracking action at a breakneck pace. Good dialogue and not too many characters to muddy a direct narrative. I sometimes feel guilty for not reading The life of Ok and it's ilk but man this is so much more enjoyable.

Enjoyable Read
Legion was a very enjoyable read with a very strong theme and lots of great characters. The book tied together the other two books in the series and described why Corvus (Felix) was the way he was throughout the series! Great read and very hard to put down!

A stark look as a soldier examines his fate
This is a great read . It lays out all the emotions of soldiers as they face battle and realizing that all Rome stands for is not just glory . I have read all of mr jones Roman trilogy so far and they don’t disappoint. The characters portrayed are realistic and the battle scenes show the horror of what happened to the survivors . Write on mr jones

Well written but it awakens many ghosts
I enjoy fantasy and science fiction military fiction for the heroism and order they bring when well written. It reminds me of the order and camaraderie I had when I was in the Corps. However this book almost brought back the ghosts of my service too as it goes into detail of what a soldier goes through. Fighting for friends instead of for nation. A realization that you and those next to you are killing and dying for people who think you are expendable commodities for their purse and power. The shear waste of lives both of the enemy and your comrades for virtually nothing. It has been decades since my active service and many ghosts only haunt me occasionally but I think this book will bring them back tonight and maybe for a while. I almost put the book down several times but I couldn't. The victims deserve to have a piece of me, both the enemy ended and the friends who did not make it back or came back in pieces. I can't say I enjoyed the book but maybe, just maybe, it will make people who haven't been on the pointy end see that war is not glorious and that the only people who gain from it are the politicians who push for it and the parasites who profit from it.

Really really good read.
It is pretty unusual to find a’historic’ novel that is pertinent to today. In the Raven and the Eagle we see altruistic young men torn apart by a war they barely understand. The novel takes you on a violent journey to discover what no young man should discover. The novel shows us that thinking young men can be scarred by many many things and this scarring may take many forms. The author has done an amazing job of taking an amazingly tragic piece of history (fictional) and put a modern twist to it and this twist deserves to be there.Plenty of action, plenty of emotion and a storyline that leads perfectly to the next chapter / volume.Great read.
