Painting Nature with Clare: Create Beautiful Gouache Motifs of the Garden, Countryside, Sea, River and Forest

I have used gouache before but really wanted to improve my skills. I have followed Clare on instagram for a while and really love her designs so was very excited to hear she was releasing a book. The book does not disappoint. The designs are beautiful and varied. I've completed two of the projects so far and feel I am really learning how to use gouache to create the best results. The layout is well thought out and having the colour swatches and mixing instructions at the start of each chapter is very helpful. One helpful tip is to use silicone colour shapers for colour mixing - it's so much easier than getting the brush caked in paint. I'd previously found using gouache a little hard work but now find it really enjoyable.

My copy of this book was delayed and lost many times (due to covid) before I eventually recieved it but it was definately worth the wait. The projects are laid out step-by-step and achievable without having to go out a buy really expensive paints and equipment. One of the best bits for me is that Clare tells you how to mix the colours with quantities attached (speck, dot, blob and how big each of those quantites is) so that you have enough to complete each project - sounds simple but so many books miss this out and just tell you to mix a bit of red with white to get pink rather than quantifying how much red and how much white!I'm looking forward to settling down and working my way through the projects and gaining the confidence to mix my own colours rather then using them straight from the tube.

I love this book and cannot recommend highly enough for a wide range or abilities.Clare's style of writing is really friendly and easy to follow. There are a large variety of beautiful projects to chose from and a wealth of inspiration. The step by step guides are detailed and really well delivered. She takes you though the whole project from helping with the initial drawings which you can copy or make up your own, to precise instructions to help build up the layers of your painting, creating something wonderful.I have really enjoyed using this book to developed my own painting and gain a greater understanding of what is achievable with gouche as a very versatile medium.I have found that using this book has not just helped me created some lovely pieces directly from the book but gain skills and inspiration for other projects.I cannot recommend this book enough.

I pre-ordered Clare’s book as soon as I heard about it and it was well worth the wait. When I received it, I immediately went to have a flick through, but found myself unable to put it down!Clare’s illustrations are absolutely beautiful and her muted colour palettes are simply stunning. The step by step instructions are really clear, concise and accompanied by fabulous illustrations. I love the way Clare has even illustrated the materials section.This quality book is packed full of exciting projects and I would highly recommend it to bring joy and inspire creativity for any Nature Lover.

A great, down to earth, how - to on various beautiful scenes. It even gives you tips on how to personalise eaach project and to progress it further yourself ! I especially like the instruction on how to precisely mix the correct shade and the right brushes to use too. Photos of each stage is given so you can follow along with the instructions easily , rather than just a picture of what it should look like in most books. A great book for experienced and newbies alike.

I am a complete beginner and found this book so simple to follow and thoroughly enjoyable. Clare is an incredible artist and really brings nature to life; incorporating stunning colour palette choices and helpful instructions for even the novice like me!I can imagine going back through this book time and time again, as I gain confidence with gouache and techniques; a really impressive and beautiful repertoire to have to hand.Thank you so much for spending time producing such a glorious guide for us, darling Clare. This is a beautiful book with very clear, step by step instructions of how to creative these lovely motifs. The drawings are so helpful as they take you through each stage of the creating process. There is such a wealth of knowledge in this book, it’s better than taking a painting course. I was a total beginner in gouache but using this book is really increasing my confidence. Really insightful and just a joy to read! Would make a lovely gift too.
