All the Critter Cuteness!
I'd never heard of this author before, but I've been in a book slump so I did a random pick on KU - and LOVE IT!First of all, mfc Kyra is awesome. Her attitude suits my current personality and the humor is on point. But I love each and every 'pest' she's adopted!Ollie.. aww! And the pygmy kraken, he is a fav for sure. His attitude is everything. I love when he throws stuff at peoples faces. Even weepy banshee Gita is bada$$. And Jacoby wins me over too. He's so scared but so brave.I feel like I could totally be Kyra (ya know, if I had Main Character Energy - which sadly, I don't.)The slow burn between her and Mason makes me crazy. Those 'boys' that run warm and then so cold drive me nuts. But at least he's got the stony hardness to back it up -wink wink-I'm so glad this came up as a recommended read for me and so glad its on KU!

Pleasurable And Gratifying Read
I’ve had this on my "Want To Read" Shelf for what seems like forever. So glad I finally picked it up. I only hope, for the rest of the rather lengthy series, that it can sustain the intrigue and drama it’s provided so far.I had thought the time frame was set in a different time period, and I’m thinking that’s part of my delay in reading it. I’ve been reading a lot of series as of late, from the Regency and Victorian Eras, which can becomes oppressive in short order, at least for myself.Glad to see I was completely off target on this one.The characters, although there are a lot, and world building, is well established. I had to go through the search feature a couple, possibly even a few times, in order to trigger my memory as to who and what some of them were. The characters, involving people and animals, are uniquely structured with very distinct personalities and traits. The links provided in the ebook to the renderings of her mythical creatures, the MC, and the menagerie of some fabled, some McDougall’s own inventive creatures, are a bonus. Such lifelike interpretations are hard to even imagine they’re fictional in nature. All the little side stories that lend to the overall plot adds to the mystery and intrigue of the overall bigger pictures. The mystery and intrigue of the widespread embodiment being presented here, piques your curiosity with the little side stories that lend to the overall plot. You can’t help but root for Kyra. She comes across as one bad-ass "Princess," as Nessa at times, affectionately calls her. So far, from what I’ve read in this one, it has the promise of becoming an excellent, well contained series. Off to read the next installment!

A worthy descendant of "Glory Road"
I loved every page of this book. The characters are vibrant and alive (even though some of them are technically undead). The background blooms like a fae garden and you find yourself immersed in the strange landscape. The action sequences are believable, the dialog rings true and the characterization, even for ancillary characters, is fully three dimensional. This is the work of a talented, professional writer. I can't wait to get my hands on the subsequent episodes in this series.

Cute!
I enjoyed this. More of a light hearted amusing read. A great twist on owning pets. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

All animal and fantasy lovers should read this!
This book was so fun, and I expect the rest of the series to be even better. Imagine a mash up of "All Creatures Great and Small" with the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris and you will get the vibe.

Tastes Like Magic
Dragons may not eat meat, but I certainly ate this book up, and it's mighty meaty! Dripping with fatty fun and oozing with juicy adventures, I'm ready to pull every book-bone from the well-done carcass of McDougall's Valkyrie Bestiary Series and savor the delights of every character and critter Kim introduces. Let's feast!

So why did a war almost break out?
I think this really deserves four stars, but the ending frustrated me to the point unforgivable-ness.Seriously, so why did everyone practically go to war in the end? Why was Joran willing to become a “vampire” over dying because he couldn’t go back? What about the alchemist leader? Why did the vampires align with the Prince? We got zero resolution here and I’m very unhappy.Clearly this is a spin-off series from something else, if you didn’t read the something else (like I did) it will quickly get on your nerves how often they reference things that happened prior to this story’s beginning and we’re just supposed to just accept it all.But yes, I’m gonna read book two and see if this is even worth continuing.

Funny!
Kyra is a pest controller with a menagerie of her own. After one job, she is relocating the creature and stumbles upon a thunder of dragons. Poachers have them colllared and looking for magic. After saving them and setting them free, one baby is left behind. Mason, the gargoyle she has been not thinking about (ha) for the last year gets involved and offers his help to find the thunder while waiting for his magical gemstone. The journey takes them through a magical area that is very dangerous and then back to deal with a Fae queen. I thought this was a wonderful look into many different creatures you don’t hear of often enough! A banshee for a roommate, a couple of gargoyles on her journey, a dervish and many more! The book has the right amount of humor - I could not stop giggling at the narrator yelling gobble gobble!!! There is action, hints at possible romance and again lots of humor. I will starting the next book very soon!

Delightful!!!
This book is a true treat! The actual places are placed I've been and could relate to(for the most part), the terminology and just pure magic. Montreal is a wonderful place for this motley pest control. Looking forward to Kyra, Mason, Angus at al in the next installment :)

Deludente

Urban fantasy at its finest
This was my first read of this author and I wasn't disappointed.A well paced, funny and serious by turns, great characters that are introduced well and that I genuinely cared about as the story unfolded. The world building is very good, and the world unfolds nicely as more info is dripped in and this happens at a pace that feels natural , no massive info dumps. This book put a smile on my face and is right up there with my favourite reads, would definitely recommend, especially if you are a fan of Violet Fenn, Markus Mathews and other fat paced urban fantasy

A menagerie of magical creatures
Kyra is a Valkyrie with a soft spot for orphaned or displaced magical critters and she has converted her home in a refuge for them. When she rescues a cute little dragon she gets involved in a conspiracy with alchemists, fae, gargoyles and vampires. The story is fun and full of kick-butt action and the characters and their dynamics set this urban fantasy book above average.

A fun action packed fairy tale
I enjoyed this book immensely. So many varied character both magic and non magic. Its full of surprises and has plenty of heart. The fact that it has an apocalyptic theme as well makes the story more intriguing.
