Great read for Titanic fans!
A great collection to add to my titanic shelves. Very interesting and enjoyable. The only issue I have is that this new edition comes with a wall chart that is used with stickers on the inside of the book - which ripped and the stickers on the wall chart won’t come off without ripping also.

It's Up to Us to Keep The Memory Alive
A very graphically illustrated revised edition of life on the Titanic leading upto and including the ill-fated day of it's sinking. The book further dwells into what was done during the slow sinking, the way in which the different classes were treated, the various acts of heroism from passengers and passing ships, whether the actual number of passengers was established, and thus if the exact number of lives lost has been ascertained. The encyclopaedic book, geared for children of age 6+ goes some way into detailing what happened to those that tragically lost their lives at sea. The letters and stories written by the survivors is all that we have in terms of actual accounts from those that worked, honeymooned, travelled and leisured across the different levels and classes with one of the world's most well known ships. Many personal stories of bravery, tragedy, pets, servants and abandonment are included. Our young daughter, just turning 7, was quite intrigued by the way people reacted and the stories that ensued. This is not her first book on the Titanic, though she has never had a book quite like this one. It is absolutely packed with information, cleverly directed towards children, in a easy to understand manner, with many names, dates, ages and well-researched historical detail preserved so that our little one can continue to use this well-balanced resource for a future school projects, whilst remaining true to the facts and including accurate dates and personal information as well as short bios on individual passengers and staff. Our little one was heartbroken to learn that the kitchen's chefs were locked into their quarters when the panic ensued to stop the steerage class from rushing into the lifeboats. The final chapter in entiltiled 'Lessons Learned'. This is a clever round off for a young impressionable mind to focus her understanding on, after taking in a good dose of quite tragic information. Her focus switched to how improvements to safeguarding passengers, and techniques employed, to make ships more resilient today and how we can ensure, as an engineer that things continue to change for the better. For everyone.Further reading on the Search & Discovery of the Titanic 73 years after sinking is included on a four page spread towards the end.I've also discovered that some of the images of the wreckage of the Titanic; and also, the character likenesses from the hit movie 'Titanic', was actually based on real life photographs and artist drawings of actual passengers as was their stories and heritage.A truly fascinating read. Not only for our little one, but for myself, revisiting the little information i knew, and learning much more along the way as we flipped though the pages together.5 stars

Information Overload
I have always been a fiction fan, but my brother never was. Whilst I would read Roald Dahl, he would be reading a book about the cut section of a ship. The DK Eyewitness series is the modern equivalent of this type of book, a non-fiction book for fans of the format. In 'Titanic' you learn a great detail about the famous ship from its origins, that fateful day and importantly how the memory of those lives on.The book comes in a lovely A4 hardback size and fits into a series, so a real nut could get all the DK books on their shelf looking pretty. Each double spread covers a topic. There are a few colour images or pictures. There is a lot of information, so the book is best for a more confident reader. It is designed for a child who genuinely enjoys learning some in depth facts, so the information comes in the form of paragraphs and not just factoids. The subject matter also appeals to a slightly older reader who can cope with ideas. DK have done a good job of adding small elements to allay fears and a section on how the legacy of the Titanic has continued. This book feels respectful and gives facts, not tabloid sensationalism. There feels like a lot of thought has gone into cramming as much information in a book for children as they can. Well done DK, perfect for a non-fiction fanatic.

TO BE REMEMBERED
The book gives a detailed history of the most famous vessel's beginningsleading-up to and including it's tragic ending that was probably avoidableon the 14th/15th April 1912 with the loss of 1500 souls. Many of you will like myself have watched many documentaries and indeedthe most relevant films such as 'Titanic' and 'A Night to Remember' andoverall know most of what can be found in this book, however, if again likemyself you remain interested in the story this book gives you a tremendousinsight into how it all came about.Funnily enough it was once thought the ship sank in one piece, however, some73 years on when the wreck was discovered it was realized the ship had brokenin two when going down/A really well worth owning and reading book with loads of photo's along withfacts and figures

Great book from a trusted publisher…
I have always had a personal fascination for the story of the Titanic and that seems to have passed down to other family members too! We have a few books on our bookshelves already but this was a child friendly account, split into bite sized segments that followed the timeline of the tragic ship from its conception to its lasting legacy. It’s easy to understand and delivered an insight into the lives of all those who travelled onboard the ship or who were involved in its building etc. It uses family stories from every class of passenger onboard to help children understand the difference between them and how that reflected on the survival rate. I can highly recommend this book in the Eyewitness series for school products etc and think everyone can learn something from its informative reflections.

Well organized and illustrated. Perfect for the age group.
As you would expect from DK, this hardback book is beautifully illustrated and packed full of information. Perfect for the targeted age range.Presented in the style of easy-to-digest paragraphs of information as opposed to a story, it is easy to flick through and enjoy. It is definitely aimed at children and missing in-depth detail, but overall a worthwhile purchase and addition to the family library. Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.
