The Golden Touch

I found this one adorable
I've read a few Laura London - Tom and Sharon Curtis books and enjoyed them very much. But I hadn't read as many as I would have liked since they were out of print for so long and very hard to find. So when they recently started reprinting them up as ebooks, I ordered a number on pre-order, something I don't often do.The Golden Touch is the one I picked first off to read. And I loved it. Because it was written a few years ago now, it's somewhat dated, but I like the word retro better. The heroine Kathy Carter is a lot more innocent and naive then many a heroine and could have been annoying, but because of the excellent writing, I found her refreshing. She owns a small musical repair business in the quaint little town of Apple Grove Wisconsin. Her safe, little world is turned upside down when famous rocker Neil Stratton drops in and asks her to repair and old but well loved guitar. He is smitten with Kathy and Perseus her relentlessly. But Kathy wants nothing to do with his wooing; her life is very fine as it is thank you very much.Neil makes for a wonderful hero and I found him irresistible. There isn't a whole lot of angst to the story, but for me, there were many smiles and a few chuckles along the way. We don't see anything from his point of view, something I missed and the main reason why this wasn't a full five stars. But I'm not sure whether this was common back when this book was originally written.I don't think it will be for everyone. There is no real edginess to it and while some might find it a bit too sweet, it was pretty near perfect for me. I said elsewhere that reading is kind of like having a lapel of purring, sleepy kitties. And as I LOVE kittens, I loved this sweet, romantic little book. And I'm very, very happy that I have more of their books to read.

Cute story about a Rock star and a small town girl..
It's a really sweet story, definitely dated, but the plot and characters shine though. The heroine is a tad bit annoying but the character and plot development of this story really gripped me. I think they tried to update the story by inserting a few references to modern day technology, but this did not work at all and made the book more confusing because it's obviously set in the 1980s,If the authors were to re-write the book completely they could successfully modernize it, but just a few word changes are silly. This takes away from the story and adds an element of disbelief. All in all, I recommend this book for a sweet and charming read that delves into some deep emotions and issues.

Terrific. Rock star romance before there was such a thing...
One of my all-time favs. This is rock star romance before there was "rock star romance" A wonderful opposites attract story. The heroine has been through some difficult times --she's a widow and very sheltered. I found their love story believable and beautiful.

Wonderful classic
The Golden Touch really does have 'the golden touch' of warmth, humor and pathos. It's not easy to fall in love with someone famous and for an introvert from a small town that's especially true.
