Creatively combines cultural differences, a timid child and the role of nature in our lives.
Pigeon Hugo takes care of his park and all of its inhabitants in Paris until, one day, a dog attacks him. Now who will take care of Hugo? “Somebody”, a little girl who has hidden behind curtains in a house bordering the park, cries out, “Non!” just in time to save Hugo, and their relationship begins. Somebody is an outstanding caregiver and brings Hugo back, thus forging their relationship. However, the park and outdoors call out to Hugo and he knows he must leave. Children are invited into the pages of this children’s book to see if Somebody leaves her home to play with others in the park. This book has it all: a talking pigeon who believes that he has a job as park warden, a timid girl who hides from playing with others, a cast of support characters that are French and fun, a setting that is culturally authentic and the use of an animal protagonist who believes that he is human. The illustrations are sublime in color, action and support of the text. Outstanding book for children.
