Kickport for my DW Bass 14x24
I have always used Kickport with all of my kits. Gotta have that hole for the mic, why not get some serious punch at the same time?! Well, that’s what I do. I highly recommend this Kickport for all recording or non recording drummers. Especially in a large venue, it really projects your bass. I have this paired with a 14x24 DW Bass drum and it is a sick boom and deep bass that is created by this little bugger. I think it’s super easy to install, if you’re new to it.... READ INSTRUCTIONS OR YOUTUBE!! Buy it!!

Makes a difference!
The kickport adds depth and tone to your bass drum sound. I do not use any pillows, pads or anything inside my bass drum and with the Kickport I get a focused fat sound that can be both felt and heard. Its a must have and makes a great gift for the drummer in your life.

Very nice addition
It works very well. As installed it was , for my genre, " Too much of a good thing" BUT It was super easy to adjust to a happy place. I will add the port to my other drumsets for sure. it is another element of adjustment that is well worth it

Improved sound, but could have been better made
The Kick-port looks to have increased in size from the first revision of the product, which, I believe is a 5" port. The larger size allows more air to be pumped through. This 5.5" model improved the 22" kick drum that I own, but when compared to the earlier version of the 5" port, this new one seems to transmit a lower thump than the 5" port, but it's a bit less focused and doesn't really add much to a live situation. I would advise the company to sell both versions. The 5.5" version may work better for studio or for larger stages. In smaller rooms, when the drums are not mic'd up, it doesn't keep up with the older 5" port.Mounting the port in the kick drum was relatively easy, although I would recommend ditching the cut template and go get a rotating cutter that uses a cutter wheel, vs. a manual cutting blade. The installation instructions are easy up until you need to insert a screwdriver butt into the kick drum to mash the rubber seal against the resonant drum head. This process didn't work at all in my case, so I ended up just having to remove the resonant head and finish the job.Once the port is installed, it stays put, but only if you cut a 5" hole, not a 5.5" or 6" hole.I like the port just fine, but if I could go back and re-cut the head all over again, I would personally hunt for the smaller 5" Kickport.

BOOM!
I gave the kickport a try just to see if it actually did anything. WOW! The low end musical tone that I get out of my Greatch Catalina Maple 22" is unbelievable! Now, that said, the greatest difference I feel is only acoustic. There was little difference between a regular port hole and a kickport hole when it comes time to mic'ing the kick. If you're playing large venues and festivals where you always mic the kick, you may not hear any benefit through the PA. But, if you play smaller bars and cafes with an un-mic'ed kit, this thing is a must! It really helps cut through the band.

Lots of extra boom on recordings and live miking..
I got the "Silver Sand" one becuase it closely matches the Silver sparkle of my drums, and contrasts against the black of my resonant head. I love the deep, chest punching boom the kickport gives on recordings and live miking. Was very easy to install after removing the Evans 22" EQ resonant head from my bass drum. Took longer to get the head off than it did to install the kickport, and hole was already factory cut. I just adhered the reinforcing ring around the oustide of the port hole, took the backing flange off, and slid the kickport through the hole, and slid the flange back on and pushed it up until it was as flush as possible against the inside of the head. All that was needed was to center the kickport logo and reinstall the head onto the bass drum. Instant boom!

Big Fat Sound
I am really enjoying the Kick Port. Something about its shape really allows a lower fundamental to come out of the kick drum. I am currently using them on several bass drums. Although they appear to be quite a bit cumbersome they actually seem to minimize damage from putting a hole in your front base from Head. And they actually make a difference than just having a hole.

Did exactly what it was supposed to do.
Purchased a Remo Starfire and wanted a port for mics. This port added to the head sound, much like a port on a subwoofer box. AND IT LOOKS GREAT!!

black and white
used this on my tama club jam. tiny tiny kit with an 18'' bass drum, with single ply remo ambassador coated heads. a large room 10m x 3m. the room was not soundproofed, just a couple of really good home made absorption panels immediately above the kit. before the kick port, the bass drum sounded lost, confused, unfocused, like someone smacking a paper bag with a carpet beater (more or less, i'm sure we've all been there). after the kick port, it was tune-able, deep, tight and focused, both in front of and behind the kit.personally as primarily a jazz player, i've never been invested much in ports of any kind. an ambassador has always been the go to. i never play massively loud or particularly aggressive. in my particular setup, i loved the kit itself (seriously for anyone interested its unbeatable at its price point) but due to the room and circumstances the bass drum needed a lot of work, the heads making the biggest difference. the stock heads just wont do. before you buy one of these make sure you have the right head fitted for your needs.more than that i cant say. for my setup it *literally* worked wonders. i cannot rate it high enough. its expensive for what it is, but, at least for my needs, it made a huge difference. highly recommended
