Hailing on all frequencies! The best Lt. Uhura doll I have ever owned and is perfect for my trio of Barbie Star Trek dolls
The doll arrived and was even better in person than on the screen. I have had a Lt. Uhura doll in the past which was simply Barbie with a Star Trek uniform on. This time Mattel has got it just right, this doll looks just like Nichelle Nichols who played this wonderfully strong female role model. The character was absolutely ahead of her time and Ms Nichols was marvelous in the role. I remember pretending to be Uhura as a little girl and I would run around squealing “Hailing all frequencies” without even knowing what it meant. To be able to get a doll that takes me back to those days is really special. The doll is not the same as the one in the photos on the website. At a guess, I believe that those photos are of the prototype doll. The skin is a slightly different color as are the eyes, lip color and especially the hair-do is different on the doll that I received. With all of that, I still think the doll is quite lovely. The doll is a medium tone brown skin tone and has short hair that sweeps straight back and has a sausage style roll on top (instead of the more flattering side-swept and slightly flattened roll in the website photos.) Her hair is darker brown, she has deep brown eyes, and a neutral skin tone lips. She wears green hoop plastic earrings (which are removable), mid-calf black boots (also removable but I don't recommend it as they never look the same afterward.)She wears a short red stretch uniform (kind of like a double knit polyester material which would have been very appropriate for the time the show was originally filmed) with gold braid trim on the sleeves and black collar. The uniform closes via hook and loop at the back. She also wears matching red panties with attached black mesh stockings. All parts of her clothes are removable. The doll comes with a communicator (which opens and closes) and a tricorder (with a spinning top) as well as a stand. The doll has split finger hands with only the third and fourth finger on each hand molded together. The communicator is held in plastic with a clear elastic band while the tricorder has a black plastic shoulder strap (which can be removed from the tricorder.)She is an articulated doll (which makes her so much fun to play with.) Her articulation points are at her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and feet. I could wish that they had included a twisting waist. As I don't plan on removing her boots, I could not test and ankle articulation very well but I believe it to be the same as the “Made to Move” Barbies that have great ankle movement.I had problems with my Mr. Spock doll sitting on its own (its hips moved out of joint) but Lt. Uhura sits very well without any issues or stress on the articulation points. While the three Star Trek figures will eventually find their home in my husband's office, I currently have Lt. Uhura sitting by my side on my desk. She and Game Developer Barbie are having quite the serious chat about the future of video gaming. Barbie is green with envy as she wanted an articulated body but didn't get one.

Beautiful
This is a beautiful doll. She has a good likeness to the woman who played the character. She has a Made to Move classic body.

Brilliant rendition of a fabulous character!
Did we NEED this? No. And I have NO idea what we're going to do with her...And yet- LOVE! I was young for the original Star Trek, but I adored Uhura- gorgeous, of course, but mostly very sensible and competent, and with the full respect of all the guyz. This doll is great! Her face is pretty accurate, even, and her costume is spot on. Her hair is perfect! It's pure fun, for older, nostalgic ST fans.

She is Beautiful a great tribute to the actress
This collectible doll is awesome and worth having in your ST collection.I am very happy with the figure and impressed over her beautifully detailed eyes, hair and skin color. The uniform and the boots are awesome Even if this was not a tribute to the original actress, this doll would still be awesome to represent a proud African American Woman of the future.

Great Likeness!
This is a great collectible. The details are so precise that memories of the TV series come flooding back. If you choose to open the box, she is comes with a display stand that allows her to be shown off from every angle. Or, if you leave her in the box the packaging allows for a great view as well. She's totally worth the very reasonable price.

Barbie Star Trek 50th Anniversary Uhura Doll ...
Absolutely STUNNING rendition of the iconic Lt. Uhura, right down the opened Communicator in her right hand and the tricorder she carries with on her left. This 50th Anniversary Tribute to the ground-breaking role that this character and fine actress Nichelle Nichols played during the Civil Rights Era of the 1960's is one of the greatest dolls in the "Barbie" franchise. Her black sheer pantyhose do wrinkle a bit when positioning the doll for display, but that can be fixed. She has a sturdy doll stand which does not intrude on her presentation, but fits discretely beneath her amazing Starfleet Uniform. I adore this doll and she is proudly on display in my home, right next to Wonder Woman.

I wanted to rate it 4.5, but I can't so I rounded up to 5
Pros:It's Lt. Uhura and it's a decent depiction of her. It's also a full 12" tall which I should have known when I bought it, but it's much bigger than I expected. She towers over the Funko Pop Star Trek crew like she's from that movie "Attack From the 50 Foot Woman". It's amusing to me.Cons:Despite sort of resembling Nichelle Nichols. she has an "uncanny valley" expression on her face which makes her look like she belongs in the cast of The Stepford Wives. Her right arm has no elbow. The pictures must be of a slightly different model because it's completely straight and unbendable while her left arm does have an elbow and can bend. The tricorder is a great accessory, but I managed to disconnect the strap while unpackaging it and spent 15 or 20 minutes trying to re-attach it just imagining the people earning 3.50 yuan an hour doing 10 of them a minute. (numbers pulled out of thin air).I'm happy with it, but not quite happy enough to rush out and order Kirk and Spock./My first Barbie Doll.

Uhura doll - Beautiful and of good taste.
I bought this doll as a birthday gift for my 9 years old daughter, and she loved it.It is perfect. Its face resembles very much the actual actress' face. It's articulated and its whole aspect is beautiful and of very good taste. My daughter (who asked me it) is very happy playing with it, and I am proud with a good choice.
