Love it!
The BODUM Bistro Stand Mixer is a fusion of aesthetics, power, and results! This is my first stand mixer. I was a little hesitant on purchasing this item based on the reviews. I honestly think some reviewers are too picky and critical. For the price (I paid $150), it was well worth the investment. I have made cookie dough, cake batter, and pancake batter so far and all have turned out delicious. No more hand mixing for me!Noise level is not bad. Once youtube review made the stand mixer sound really loud, however I think it was due to the audio of the recording itself. My biggest concern was how loud it was because I did not want to annoy my roommates. It's def not dead silent, but it's far from LOUD.This stand mixer does a great job at getting most of the ingredients. There was a few times where I had to stop and scrap the bottom of the bowl to make sure the untouched flour got mixed in as well. However, watching Kitchenaid videos of their stand mixer, they do the same too. I don't think no stand mixer out there is perfect in regards to mixing without having to stop and scrap the bottom and edges.I love the shield and opening to add ingredients. Very convenient. Overall, I am happy and pleased with my purchase. It was a great Christmas gift for myself!

Better than a hand mixer, but not that awesome.
Short version: If you want something like a hand mixer with little effort, get this thing. If you want a mixer than can do more than a hand mixer, look elsewhere.I have a KitchenAid Artisan. It over heated the week before Christmas, so I ordered this one in order to prepare everything for Christmas. In terms of mixing cake batter and cookie dough, it does just fine. I did have to scrape the bowl often. It's a lot wider at the bottom, so don't forget to scrap that including the sides. For whipping frosting, this mixer is lacking, even using the whisk attachment. With the Kitchen Aid, I use the same recipe and mix for 5 minutes. I can frost all of the cupcakes I make, and have frosting to spare. Same recipe in this one, mixed for 5 minutes, and it barely makes enough to frost all of the cupcakes made. Whipped cream isn't as airy, so you don't get as much. Buttercreams wind up very dense. I would run the mixer longer, but the instructions say to run it 5 minutes max before giving it time to cool.So the results are comparable to a hand mixer. If you want a stand mixer to make stand mixer items, this stand mixer can't do it... The 5 minute limit makes things like homemade marshmallows impossible for this mixer (the mixer doesn't auto-shut off, but the manual says not to run it longer, and I don't want to risk breaking it for the sake of experimentation). At the price I got it at, I could recommend it to a friend who isn't a baking enthusiast. At the full retail price, I'd laugh and tell people to avoid this product. It's nice for a cheap mixer; it's crap for a mixer priced like a Kitchen Aid.

Bodum Mixers Rock!!! ;-)
Hello to all of my Fellow Bakers! I have bought many, many mixers in the past from Sunbeam to an expensive Hamilton Beach and I can totally and completely say that this Bodum Bistro Electric Stand Mixer outperforms all of its competitors to the Max! I do a lot of baking and mixing so I use my mixers regularly and I was so completely and pleasantly surprised at how well this mixer did it's job! I didn't have to keep scraping the sides every few seconds like I had to using the Hamilton Beach and it completed the job in record time. I got the pretty red one and the handle on the bowl was a Serious Godsend! I have Fibromyalgia and Arthritis really super bad in my whole body and especially in my hands and wrists so this inventive handle was a very welcome surprise and made the job much easier. Thank You Bodum! I will never buy a different brand of mixer again. I hope that this review helps you all.Sincerely,Edna

Great mixer
I love this mixer. It sits on my counter and has a high tech design that is pretty cool. It's is small enough to fit under my upper cabinets which was a problem with my Kitchaid mixer that I had to store in the garage due to it height. I loves the suction cups on the bottom which keeps it solidly on the counter, no walking when turned on. l got this before Xmas and it plowed through all my baking: multiple batches of cookies, breads and whipped cream. As to the issue of running it for a limited time, my Kitchenaid ProfessionL 600 had the same restrictions. (I know cause I fried that machine after only 6 uses- an expensive lesson I won't repeat!) For bread making, I knead for 4 minutes, rest, than back on for 4 more minutes. Makes great bread. Price is unbelievable for a machine of the power. Enjoy!!!!!

No Spare Parts--Useless
Noisy and unstable, but seemed to get the job done. But then the dough hook snapped in two while kneading dough. I contacted Bodum about buying a new dough hook and received the following response:"We are sorry to hear about the problems you have been having and thank you for bringing it to our attention. The item isn't sold as a spare part. We are sorry we can't be of further assistance."So now I have a $200 paperweight.

Okay for whipped cream
Against my better judgment I decided to use this on my pasta dough. As this unit has already failed trying to mix cookie and bread dough I was hoping for a different result. I know, insanity, right. Well I was not disappointed, had the mixer running for about 2 minutes, and once again, while mixing, the bowl dislodged from the mount, same as my previous experiences with this mixer. It can whip cream though. The unit looks nice, but function is terrible. I should have bought the Kitchen Aide I wanted.
