Not as good as the 70s editions
My mother and mother in law both gave me their copies of the Dairy Book of Home Cookery, from the 70s. Much loved cookery books used by millions. However, this edition has been tweaked to be lower fat, it's got loads of baking recipes and many of the recipes which were family favourites aren't in this edition. Don't like the layout and few photos. Disappointing.

Don’t be deceived
Small cookbook??The cookbook looks full size but is not, ‘honey I shrank the cookbook!’ It’s small as I’m sure you’ve gathered, not explicit at all, in fact a very quick, slapdash, magazine style recipe book. Not what I expected at all. I was tempted into buying the Dairy diary favourites too, another disappointment with a few basic ring bound recipes. I definitely would not recommend. I don’t appreciate having the wool pulled over my eyes, this book is being sold as if it’s a big time. Uh uh

Disappointing compared to previous versions
This is the fourth version of this book that I have owned, my last version is held together with bulldog clips and duct tape. In addition I have bought copies for each of my son's as they left home to live on their own, It is really the only recipe book they need.I have to say that I am disappointed with this iteration. The last version I had was the 90s one. This new one has fewer pictures and is less visually appealing, it is about half the thickness despite claiming to have new additional recipes. Also they seem to have changed the names of some of my favourite recipes. If you want a book to actually cook from try to pick up the earlier cream covered one secondhand...This one is for sitting on your bookshelf.

What the let down ....
I have bought all of the previous dairy books of family cooking/British food Over the years and use them regularly. I was under the impression that this was part of the same series of books but it isn’t. This book is tiny and just a cutdown version of recipes with nothing new. over the years and use them regularly. A bit of a let down I can see this will be going to the charity shop pretty soon!

Helping hand
Arrived today just in a thin jiffy bag. The book although in good condition has suffered having the corners battered when posted through the letter box! I bought the original Dairy Cook book when my son was born for myself and had to replace a few years later ( not such a good later edition). When both of my children left for university I also bought them a book each to take to use in digs, since it gave clear basic instructions for most things. Now I am purchasing for my granddaughter, who for some reason has decided to do cookery as part of her GCSE's. Having never seen her cook, other than occasionally with me when visiting, I have told her I now look forward to her first meal when she stays. I decided I'd better give her a helping hand and this is it. We will see if it does help!
