Some assembly was needed but I found a fantastic guide from Adafruit that explained the whole thing

Product delivered was exactly what was expected, and from Adafruit. Some assembly was needed but I found a fantastic guide from Adafruit that explained the whole thing. Works perfectly well, zero detectable noise when sitting idle, and this little board gets loud enough to comfortably fill a room! I have it in analog mode driving 2 40w bookshelf speakers and it performs from the lowest to the highest frequencies with no discernible distortion, even all the way up! Highly recommended if you can handle the assembly process, I was able to do it carefully within a half hour.

Reliable, well packaged, and sounds better than expetcted

Adafruit doesn't seem to be making these anymore, but they are one of the best little 20+20 Class D amps you can get for the price. it doesnt buzz, it powers up quietly, and has been more than reliable for me (this is my second one)

works well with sufficient voltage

Needs voltage but otherwise works well. At 5V it is no better than a lot of the lower rated amps by adafruit, if you try to raise the volume higher, it distorts. Once you have 10-12V the quality is good even at higher volumes. Some assembly is required and some of the components are unnecessary, for instance the barrel plug connector if you plan to wire power to it anyways, removed that to cut down on the height.

Product came defective...

Docking two stars off the bat. Right after opening and inspecting the product I found the following:Barrel jack connector unmounted with solder still on the pads and imprints indicating it was "soldered" on.Zero ohm resistor out of place. One pad connected but the other disconnected. Same deal; imprint indicating the pad was "soldered" on but the component detached. This isn't common for Adafruit, so I'm assuming it's either from handling (shipped from Emerging Tech Sales), or from 3rd party assembly.Hopefully after repairing myself (J-STD certified), the board works as intended. Will be updating review if it doesn't.

Perfect

Minimal soldering needed, works well.Used it with a Pi Zero W to make a WiFi controlled home theater amplifier (NOT one that streams wirelessly, just for controlling mute and volume). The amplifier it replaced weighed 20 pounds and made a ton of heat in summer, heating the room more than reasonable. This thing makes no real heat, and can drive the same bookshelf speakers I was using before.

Excellent, as long as you know a little bit ...

Excellent, as long as you know a little bit about what you're doing. Soldering is required. ALL audio sources must either come from the 3.5mm headphone jack or the R/L RCA inputs. I2S or any other digital audio is not supported. The only thing you can do with I2C is volume control. Otherwise, this amp is fully functional on its own and puts out plenty enough power for the JBL Control Xs I have mine connected to. Great solution for those looking to power bookshelf speakers without wanting to invest in a full receiver.

Love this amp!

Great quality little amp. Has excellent features and comes with pretty much everything you should need. I think huge credit should go to this company for providing in depth clear information on not only the product itself but the assembly process (It does require some soldering so be prepared for that). One thing worth mentioning is that the instructions tell you to solder in the screw down ports but keep in mind this is not practical for very small gauge wire. I could not get ANY of the wires to actually stay in the ports in-spite of making numerous attempts for about an hour. My initial thought was to solder them directly to the board and I soon realized I should have gone with that instinct. Removing the screw down terminals was a huge pain! Aside from that issue, this thing is boss : ) Takes up very little space which I desperately needed for my project. Has a volume knob that you can install. And has a GPIO! I will be pinning a tiny brushless fan into it. I highly recommend using 12v power with this amp as low voltage can result in horrible audio (which it did in my case when I used a 5v adapter).

Great addition to the Arduino board collection

I have loads of experiment boards for the Arduino projects, this audio amp is a super addition to my collection.
