The photographs are wonderful and I learned a lot from the accompanying text, as well. Plenty of huge musical personalities are featured alongside lesser-known artists. Lots of fun.

Mr. Peterson's photographs are world reknowned and here have been carefully reproduced and edited by Dr. Stokes to bring to life both the musicians and the environment of the dynamic jazz period, 1930-1950s. The pictures of the Savoy Ballroom make you want to get up and dance! You can almost hear the music. This book should be on every jazz enthusiast's bookshelf, so that the unknowing can be convinced of the influence jazz played at this time in American history.
