Tire gage.
Easy to use and the price was right. The base of the gate is slightly bowed due to the plastic being warped. Hope over time that this does not get worse. It would have been better if the base off the gauge was metal. Even thought the measurement of the tread seems to be accurate enough to monitor tread wear.

Stiff Movement
Bought this to repurpose as an inexpensive machining depth indicator for my small lathe, held on with neodymium magnets. The movement is very stiff and it keeps sliding. Tt doesn't seem to be loosening up with use, either.However, I'm sure it will work just fine as a tire tread depth gauge.
