Music Technology 101: The Basics of Music Production in the Technology Lab or Home Studio - Book/Online Video

This book is great for a beginner in music technology!
I've been a musician my whole life – playing piano, guitar, singing/songwriting – but I never delved into music technology and production and I really wanted to be able to record my own songs at home. It's always been something I've been a bit intimidated by because there is a lot to learn, of course. This book breaks things down in a very easy to understand way, and I LOVE how the author introduces himself. He says he didn't know anything about music technology (although he was a musician as well) when he started teaching it and says if he can learn it, anyone can. I don't know, it just sort of made it less daunting. He's got a great way of describing and breaking everything down, there are great examples and definitions, and I would recommened this to anyone. It's aimed at people who are going to be teaching music technology, which I am not, but based on a few reviews it is helpful to anyone starting out and they were correct. Definitely check it out if your brand new and want to begin this journey! Great book.

The diagrams and photos of products and concepts are extremely helpful for the reader to fully grasp the concepts and see them in action. Heath's encouragement and candor throughout the book will help lessen any fears that you may have and increase your confidence to give it a try! The chapters sequentially build upon each other, aligning directly to lesson delivery in the classroom. Each concept is fully discussed and then immediately practiced through detailed steps with diagrams to assist in comprehension. I highly recommend this book for EVERY music teacher, new and seasoned, regardless of whether you teach or think you may ever teach a music technology course.
