Addressing an epidemic
A wonderful insight into what has seemingly become a sad epidemic. I have recommended it to several friends who see their grandchildren being driven to the point of exhaustion through over zealous but well meaning parents. The authors outline the problem in a very direct and meaningful dialogue. The children are the ones at risk here I would like to see this book given more publicity in order to reach the ears of so many misguided parents.A great,book... but long overdue .

Superb book for parents and coaches
This book is a godsend! If you are a coach or a parent of a child in organized sports, you will deeply appreciate--and benefit from--the insights found in Beyond Winning. This book not only sheds light on the unspoken dark side of youth sports (too young, too much, too hard), but provides parents and coaches with real solutions to real problems. And perhaps the most important aspect of this book is that it calls attention to the very purpose of youth sports, something that many of us have forgotten. Youth sports are meant as a form of play that helps develop the body, mind, and character of a child, and should not be a younger version of adult, competition-obsessed athletics.I am the former president of a California statewide non-profit organization focused on parent participation in early childhood education. Our organization advocated for healthy play-based learning as something vital for a child's development. With evidence and expertise, the authors of Beyond Winning urgently and eloquently address how we should think about and conduct youth sports. I am truly impressed and grateful for this book.I very highly recommend Beyond Winning for any coach or parent who wants to improve the state of our current youth sports environment, not only your own children, but for the sake of all our kids.

It's all about perspective.
This book helps supports parents who feel skeptical of the highly competitive and adult-driven world of kid sports.
