And always he should read his Bible, as George Muller said, “with meditation.” After the Bible the next most valuable book for the Christian is a good hymnal. Let any young Christian spend a year prayerfully meditating on the hymns of Watts and Wesley alone and he will become a fine theologian. Then let him read a balanced diet of the Puritans and the Christian mystics. The results will be more wonderful than he could have dreamed.The truly spiritual man is indeed something of an oddity. He lives not for himself but to promote the interests of Another. He seeks to persuade people to give all to his Lord and asks no portion or share for himself. He delights not to be honoured but to see his Saviour glorified in the eyes of men. His joy is to see his Lord promoted and himself neglected.

As always, A.W. Tozer has given us an accurate account of our world today. This is quite remarkable given the year it was penned. It is a work well worth your time and study.

I have read several of Tozer's books and he truly is a modern day "prophet" (in the sense of forth-telling, not fore-telling). This Spirit filled book is full of empowering and edifying words...from cover to cover. Almost every "chapter" is only two pages long and provides a concise, to the point, impactful, and convicting discussion of that relative topic. Tozer exemplifies the directive that we (Christians) should spur each other onward and help eachother to live a Spirit lead and Spirit filled life. Profound teachings rich with illumination that could have only come from the Holy Spirit Himself. I would recommend this book (along with every other book I've read by Tozer) to anyone who truly wants to "go on with God"...in other words, if you are tired of holding hands with the world and truly want to subvert self (that is your sinful nature) and be "more than conquerors", this is a must read. This book will speak to you where you are at and convict you...we are not called to look like this world or live a defeated life...we are called to so much more, and it all starts with a right view of God and how He wants us to spend our short time here on this earth. Get this book and get ready to go deeper with God! Only one drawback...and this is something I've noticed with other Tozer reprints as well...the book itself is fairly poorly edited and contains some grammatical errors, incomplete sentences and wrongly used words. For example in one of his books (can't remember if it was this one) they use "feeling" instead of "filling" and there are other various mistakes where the word used does not make sense contextually and another word was meant. I would recommend getting an original edition if you can find it. It does not make sense to me how there can be so many mistakes in these reprints...the only thing I can think of is the printer used some kind of word/text recognition software when scanning the original books and then assumed that was good enough. At any rate, it is only a small complaint and really takes nothing away from the book itself as I was (for the most part) able to discern what Tozer meant and what the original text likely said.

In this work Tozer discusses numerous topics. Each chapter contains nuggets of Truth to challenge, illuminate or encourage the believer to a deeper walk in their faith and relationship with the Lord Jesus.

In this book Tozer covers deep theological concepts in an easily understood way. He talks soul to soul about things that really matter. Some of the questions he answers in this book include:What is real faith?Does God always answer prayer?How do you love God?How can you make rapid spiritual progress?Tozer believed that the Bible was a supernatural book and can only be understood by supernatural aid. He believed that scientific knowledge cannot save your soul or give you eternal truth which is the answer to man's problems.I found Tozer had some very serious considerations in regards to prayer. He defines the unregenerate and the regenerate and believed that to be a friend of the world was to be an enemy of God.Yes, his words are sometimes shocking to the modern mind and yet there is deep truth there and spiritual food for the hungry soul. If you love Billy Graham or C.S. Lewis then you will probably enjoy this book. I was very encouraged by the content of this book and can recommend it to anyone who is a spiritual seeker looking for the truth.~The Rebecca Review

Highly recommend, reminds us of our Christian journey, why we gave ourselves as living sacrifice to God, being dead to sin and living for Christ. Professing the Confession of our faith and holding up despite the opposition from the world.Being true Christians regardless of what the world says, standing firm in our truth that Christ is the Son of God, He came to redeem us back to God, He is the only way to God and will return again. This world is not our home and we look forward to His glorious return.It's a book to re-read over and over again.

This book is for multiple readings and serious study for sincere and serious God seeking people.

I very much enjoy and relate to a depth of faith often so hard to find and upon which one can meditate. In Tozer one finds a high call to true Christian faith in Jesus Christ.

Great book. Easy to read and pick up again where you left off. Wonder insights and a real eye opener.
