I love this chess set. It's SO much better than the super cheap set I was using. It's a great size, the mat stays flat and rolls up easily for storage in the tube, and the numbered/lettered grid are helping me actually finally learn to play this game. I paid $17, and the pieces are good quality for the price, lightweight for travel, and a nice size. The board does need some airing out, but the smell wasn't a big problem for me. The cardboard tube is handy, and the end caps are metal. The strap is a narrow ribbon of thick plastic which is riveted to the cardboard. It seems sturdy for what it is. Not sure how long it will stay intact, but I'm not really traveling with it so it shouldn't break any time soon. I am happy I chose this set.

This set is all that it claims to be and more. The vinyl board can be rolled up and stored easily, and the pieces are well-crafted. They have a decent heft to them (not hollow), and the felt base make them usable on other boards too. This is a serious set for an enthusiast or a club-member. Highly recommended!

I like the set, it's good for classes, it's a bit smaller than the conventional scholastic sets it's 17" instead of 21". The smaller size makes this set easier to place on most tables. The pieces are nice, the carrying case is acceptable, the strap is a bit weak though. No extra queens for pawn promotion. Overall it's worth the $16.49 price when I bought it.

I think you pay more than $10 for a chess set at a big box store. This is better quality and you can travel with it easily. I really like the size/weight of the pieces. This is a nice set for $16. Unfortunately, opportunities to play someone face-to-face are limited during the pandemic. I have been setting up chess problems with this set. I am very happy with it.

I love this set. The kids have just joined a chess club and we needed something for them to take with them. The board is sturdy and thick vinyl. Pieces are hollow with felt bottoms, but have good weight to them. They board rolls up to fit into the container and the pieces fit into the hollow tube with the board. The tube is the box the game arrives in. The tube has a string handle to make it easy to slip over an arm or shoulder.

My family did drawings for Christmas, and every year imposes arbitrary rules to make the Christmas presents more meaningful. This last year our arbitrary rule was that we needed to make the present. Since I am as creative as a rock (the kind you find on the ground, not the actor/wrestler) this was a challenging year to make my dad's gift. I went to Mexico and purchased polished onyx chess and checkers pieces. I cut the chess portion of this board off, and using a very strong industrial adhesive I glued this board to a large stone tile.The finished results were pretty good, though all of the defects in my present were due to my poor craftsmanship rather than the quality of my materials.

Not standard tournament size,Peices smaller and not weighted.The canister straps did not hold up as a carying case.Have had it for about 2 years, still in good shape. Mat rolls out flat, peices have lasted through some heavy usage.Great back up set, practice tournament set, play just for fun set.

We bought this for our kids to have something noon electronic to play when we travel. It's so easy to pack and for the kids to set up and put away!

Great set for kids. Pieces don't have a lot of weight to them, but it's a great starter set.
