1st place over Keen and Altra
This boot is great! Fits my requirements of near 0 drop, wide toe box,mid height, great grippy tread and breathable. The drop is a tiny 5mm, and I like it, as I wanted a bit more cushion than the Altras, but not more than 5mm. The toe is well protected. When toes are fully bent, there is no pinch point at the small toes. The toe box is wide but still offers support to the rest of the foot. The laces use excellent rapid hooks for the last two eyelets. The material covering the top of the toe box feels stronger than the usual cheap mesh, and they are very breathable. I washed my car by hand with these on to specifically test waterproof level. Of course, they are not advertised as waterproof, and they are NOT. The least water on the top of the shoe will translate immediately into your sock, BUT they are nice for my HOT feet because they breathe so well. This also means they dry pretty quickly. So, I can happily live with that.I also ordered the Keen Targhee III and the Altra Lone Peak mid. Neither one was even close. Here is why:-2nd place The Altra are 0 drop and great tread, but not enough stack for cushion while wearing a pack. Also, not enough protection at the front of the toes, and slightly too loose a toe box! I will still buy Altra shoes, but not their boots. Also very important; when toes are fully bent back, the Altra's fold created a pich over my smallest toes which was uncomfortable after only 15 minutes.-3rd place The Keen felt very much like my Keen snow boots. No agility or articulation. Also they have an unnatural supination for me. Too clunky.

My first pair of Altras. What took so long?
My wife has been wearing Altras for years. When she broke a toe (barefooted) year, her surgeon was very happy she wore Altra shoes for relief of both her broken toe and her other foot problems. After all these years, I finally decided to try them. The original toe box shape of the Lone Peak Hikers is roomy and lets my toes spread out as if I were barefoot. The zero drop kind of reminds me of the negative heel Earth shoes I wore back in the 70's. Walking the local trails so far has been quite enjoyable. I will be wearing them as both hiking and around town shoes. I just hope they will hold up because they are very lightweight although they seem well constructed. Good comfortable shoes are worth every penny you have to spend on them.

Best hiking boot I’ve owned!
We recently did a two week whirlwind tour of Colorado. These boots did great on about 25 miles of hiking trials at RMNP up and around Bear Lake. We did about 10 miles of hiking at the Colorado National Monument, then about 10 miles at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, 5 miles at Red Rocks, and then another 5 miles at Garden of the gods. I was worried that these would be great since I did not break them in before the trip, but to my surprise they were comfortable from day one! At Bear lake we went up to Emerald lake and there was tons of snow still on the ground and I had no problem navigating around in it with these boots. They are not water proof and they did get pretty wet, but with the aid of my boot dryers these completely dried over night. They had great traction on pretty much all surfaces and also on some steep grades. The boots held together very nicely and aside from some knicks from rocks on the trails look and feel practically new. Since being back home I now wear these daily to the office. I’ve been so impressed that I am also considering buying the Altra Lone Peak lows as my new running shoe.

Easily the most comfortable shoe.
Immediately upon opening the box I was praying they fit well. I normally wear mens 9.5, and these are true to size. These shoes are lighter than a pair of flip flops, but are well constructed. Great looking shoe and really very comfortable, I could tell the minute I laced them up. I went out for a short 5 mile walk to see how they feel and I was not disappointed. No uncomfortable seams, no hot spots, no rubbing. I don't normally leave reviews on shoes, but Altra did good with these. Buying another pair soon for back up.

Almost there!!
My first pair of Altra high tops. Love the low cut versions!! Best summer kicks I've ever owned! and I live in Nike town! My son runs. Marathons, cross country etc. Says his Altras are best! So nice to have options in narrow to wide styles. I have Ultra's in 10.5, wide, so comfy even without socks!! Love them!! So onto the boot version.... right out of the box, awesome!! I ordered elevens to make room for socks. Great for sock length, toe box just right, only caveat.... no choice for wide versions. Ack! toe box is fine, but do feel the squeeze over the arch and ankle area. Hopefully will give a little with wearing. No choice for widths,,,,Ack!! Put these on….. wearing for the day, may never take them off!! So comfy!

The BEST shoes
These are the best. they hold up extremely well (generally we have to replace other shoes within a couple of months). So comfortable and have great support.

Very comfortable
Very comfortable for my wide feet. I use them for hiking and for trail running.Great for fitness, maybe not good for other things like outdoor work.

Super wide fit and not very supportive, but love that they are zero drop
I applaud Altra for being one of very few makers of zero drop trail shoes. Lot of room for improvement, but these are usable and my feet are so much happier in them. The length is perfect, but for my regular width feet - not narrow - these shoes are way too wide. I added a thick 6mm insole under the factory one and my feet still slide from side to side. These are not hiking boots, they are high top sneakers with a moderately aggressive lugged sole. The sole is way too squishy, there is not enough support to keep the foot in place when traversing a steep slope, and no support from the sole for edging on a narrow foot hold.Compared to my Salomon X-Ultra boots, these are inferior in every way but one. Zero drop is more important for my foot comfort than all the support and protection that the Salomon offers. Really wish there was a manufacturer that could build a decent hiking boot without the elevated heel.
