good purchase
Good companion to the game. Includes strategy and examples with tactics. Couldn't find the board game on this site but did find a beautiful one from a Canadian Book store web site.

The most informational and interesting book available on Tafl games and the history of Hnefatafl.
I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this book! I enjoy playing board games, but reading about the history of an ancient game is not typically an interest of mine. However, this book is written with an authentic voice that engages the reader through the author's enthusiasm about the topic.Arguably the most detailed and informational book of its kind (take a look at the extensive bibliography), the author takes us on a journey through the development of and culture surrounding Hnefatafl. On the way I learned things I hadn't known about Celtic and Scandinavian history, mythology, and the original purpose of games such as this one. The diagrams throughout are useful for understanding play and the comparison of related games. The author includes a detailed chapter on strategies and game play, again with diagrams so the reader is able to practice play on a game board alongside the book, if desired. I recommend this book for readers who enjoy Tafl games, the history of games, and history in general.

Great and needed book
This is a great, and detailed book on one of my favorite subjects Hnefatafl. It is safe to say the best and most thorough book on this game, and its history.Corey SchmidtCreative ImagesSevenOaksGrove on etsy
